I love reading and watching dystopian stories and I am so happy that I've found this gem with a woman protagonist. It was a rather slow reading but the author managed to transpose me in the world she created and made me feel and suffer along with this woman left supposedly as a sole survivor on earth.
There is also a wonderful connection - between her, the nature and the animals she finds along the way - that I've found so endearing.
What happens towards the end left me in shock and it was not fair; but life isn't always fair, right? And yet you continue to fight to live or survive in her case.

Normally, I’m not one for a Robinsonade because I find them to be slow, meandering, and pedantic. While this one had touches of it, I really enjoyed how the author sprinkled in some genuine contemplations on life, the meaning of humanity, and what drives us as humans. I also appreciated that for the premise of a world that may or may not have been created by a military experiment, that is not at all a focus of conversation. The self is far more rich to explore than the system. I’m glad that this was my book club’s read for this month.

The only time a girl really gets a chance to be alone is at the end of the world.

To me, a perfect book.
