Dude was an ass that totally loved his wife WAY more then the h. She deserved better...
A dove has great beauty, but is easily broken.
Broken Dove was a book that I was anticipating like crazy. First, you have sad widower Apollo. Second, Apollo has kids and if you've read a Kristen Ashley novel, romance + kids + a step-parent=EVERYTHING. Third, this is Fantasyland and anything can happen. The trappings were there for epic times....but it fell just a little flat. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy this installment because I did but I did have a few issues that prevented me from rating it higher.
I have vowed to keep you safe, to make it so you never feel fear again, to give you better, and here I stand, with you so close but still holding yourself away, because it was me who failed at giving you all those things.
The biggest issue for me was Ilsa/Madeline and I hate that! I really thought considering her backstory (her Apollo from her world was an abusive jerk!) and the deal with Apollo and his kids that this would easily be 5 stars but she was sort of boring in comparison to the other heroines. Finnie was sassy, Circe was brave, Cora was endearing, and Madeline I just could never connect with. And I don't think that's a reflection of the writing as much as I just didn't find what I wanted in her story. I mean Madeline with her past and her future can easily be described as all of those qualities the other ladies had, I just had a hard time feeling more than just lukewarm to her story and her character arc.
It is my responsibility as the man who loves you and wants you to be his wife to mend what’s broken in you … I’ll not forget again that I must treat you with care.
But there was still plenty of this story that I enjoyed. Like the sexy times between Maddie and Apollo. They even do

butt stuff :) :) :)3.5 stars
I love Maddie. She's easily my favorite character in the series after Ceres.
By far my favorite of all of these and I haven’t even finished the first two. Their relationship and the way it progressed was beautiful to witness and the way her relationship with apollo’s kids was established hit a spot for me even though I don’t have nor am near the age of having kids so I can’t relate. I loved everything about this book and the only thing I regret is not reading it slower.
DNF. I tried so hard because I LOVED the other books in the series.... But this just bored me. I am so bored.

Oh man. That was amazing!!! Oh, how I missed Ms. Ashley's fantasyland books! And Apollo and Maddie got their much deserved happy endings. The book sucked me in right from the beginning and it held my attention until the very last word. I love you Apollo! And Elan and Chris are soo cute!
I loved how the previous couples were in this book A LOT! Oh gosh...Lahn and Circe are my FAVOURITE couple and they were AMAZING! I wish Tor and Cora were in this one more but how much longer can this book be!? I also loved how Frey was in this book quite a lot since he's Apollo's cousin. I enjoyed the characters of Hans and Loretta! Katie Ashley please write like a novella for them! I wanna read their story since Maddie sucks at lip reading!
I LOVE the ending...and Kristen Ashley is amazing for her epilogues. I swear she's the only one who made me squeal so much in the span of like 10 pages.
This will be a LONG wait for Noc's book. Please don't make me wait a whole year for his book. I hope his girl is Circe!

Another story from my favorite author I'm sad to have end. When until I read it again and until the next one :-)
4.5
This was by far the best written book of the series. The author constructed a much better, more logical, and well developed plot than all the rest. Granted, the author was also benefitted by three prior books that provided a lot of development already. The only reason I down-graded this by half a star was because the first half of the book wasn't my flavor. It dealt a lot with grief-related conflicts, which I don't enjoy as much as others. The back half of the book was great; it was exciting and captivating. Most importantly, though, the book as a whole flowed well and presented and ended conflicts that were interesting and logical.
