Promise Me Not

3.55 AVERAGE

Zero stars.
Zero chilis.
This FMC is a horrible person. She unapologetically strings Mason on by turning hot and cold for over a year. I mean, she let him cut the baby's umbilical cord and then stops talking to him for months even though he texts and calls her at least once a day? She ruins him and his first semester at college. We never find out if he loses his starting position or not (plot hole). They are only together in the last chapter, and there is a one night sex scene that was not descriptive and boring.
If I could go back in time and dnf book 1 and never read this one, either I would.

My heart!

Promise

I was not ready for what this book would do to me. It healed me in a way I didn’t know I needed. Mason was everything and his daddy form was ten times better than I imagined. He was meant to be exactly that, her protector and his daddy. I enjoyed getting the back and forth of time. We were able to get a full story of things that were happening in the background of say you swear which we really needed to understand how they fell in love. She was so terrified to let go and love, it broke my heart to see her beat herself and blame herself for things you had no control of. This book was fantastic and a definite must read added to my list.

This was not hitting the way I had expected it to after experiencing say you swear. I think the constant timeline jumping back and forth is was threw me the most. I also just generally don’t like kids involved in my books, but other series I have loved have incorporated kids or a baby in some way and I still loved it despite not being somebody who likes that in my fictional universes. This was not one of those books for me. Also, his nickname “pretty little” was super annoying or weird imo. I know Payton experienced a great trauma and was a teenager but still felt she handled a lot of things very immaturely. Miscommunication or fear of feeling was a big factor in this story and idk it just wasn’t doing it for me. I didn’t hate it, but it did not blow me away either.

3.5
Possibly the slowest slow-burn I’ve read, and my heart ached the whole time.

DNF @ 25% i was so excited for this one, but it honestly was boring me to tears and was going to put me in a slump. maybe i’ll come back to it later but i’m leaning towards not.

What was the plot? No plot other than running away from conversations and feelings. How many times can you run away from the other character? The limit does not exist apparently.

A good story overall, but nothing will ever top the first book! minimal spice, but very emotional!

*ARC REVIEW* SPOILERS*****

A good story overall, but nothing will ever top the first book. This book was very opposite from the first book, but not in a bad way! There was very little spice (literally none until the last chapters), which made sense with the story line, but I was hoping for way more after the first book. I found myself just like “okay come on get it together already” sooooo many times. I totally get both of their reasonings for their actions, but it was VERRRRRRRRY slow burn (I’m not usually a slow burn girly) and the end felt a bit rushed. I was really hoping to see more of them after that ending (maybe an epilogue or two will be coming?).

I love going back and forth every few chapters to see both of their POV’s before and after Deaton’s death. You really have to pay attention to what’s going on to keep up. I loved seeing snippets of Noah and Ari along the way too. It warmed my heart

Good not great. It’s honestly the same as how I felt about book one, Say You Swear, in the Boys of Avix series. Just a tad too long, and a lot of emotional build up but for a short climactic ending. I found myself just anxious and frustrated the whole time wanting to knock some sense into these angsty college kids! Once you get like 85% through though, it heats up and all is right in the romance world!

Mason is in love with Payton and her son. Payton is still in love with her ex boyfriend who passed away. Her and Mason become best friends, but when her feelings change to something more, she feels major guilt. When she pushes Mason away his college football career takes a downward spiral, while her photography career starts to take off. Will his persistence pay off? Let’s sure as heck hope so!
