This author creates plot ideas that are so interesting, but unfortunately I have yet to rate any of them higher than 3 stars because there is a certain lack of excitement in the execution of any of them:
- In [b:Radiance|24473763|Radiance (Wraith Kings, #1)|Grace Draven|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1422721500s/24473763.jpg|40780371], the idea of being forced into marriage with someone you view as looking a little like a corpse is such an interesting concept, but there wasn't much else to the plot and villains were flat.
- In [b:Entreat Me|18811222|Entreat Me|Grace Draven|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1384700749s/18811222.jpg|26746176] we get an interesting take on a Beauty-and-the-Beast-esque plot but the ending was weak, the attraction between the characters wasn't particularly believable, and the ending didn't make a lot of sense.
- In this book, we have a man possessed by an evil God and a woman who may either save him or ruin him. But once again the villain/God is kind of flat and themaybe ending is a little nonsensical if you think about it too much.
I almost wish this author sold her book ideas to someone else to write them out. I know that's harsh. But the ideas and some of the characters are still good enough to consistently get 3 stars so maybe with time she will hit a book I will really love instead of just like.

Nothing particularly remarkable, just a solid, well-written fantasy romance. Beginning is rather slow but builds and captivates, much like the relationship of Silhara and Martise. The ending was predictable but still satisfying. This was not one born of "insta-love," allowing for deeper bonds and more complexity. I would be interested to see what else this author has to offer.

Pretty decent, can definitely see the uprooted comparisons but not nearly as good. I kept waiting for a satisfying ‘clean up the manor’ montage after we’re shown how gross and dirty it is over and over but it never came ...i get being run down was part of the charm but girl clearly wasn’t charmed by the cobwebs and spiders and holes in the floors

Welp....its been a while since I’ve written one of these...
Despite the fact that it took me nearly the entire month to finish this book...it had NOTHING to do with my enjoyment of the book and EVERYTHING with me simply not being in the mood to read because I LOVED this book.
“Say my name” .... I’m telling you....when Destiny’s Child sang this, it was cool. But when Silhara says it? Three of the sexiest words I’ve ever read in my life. JESUS! That man.....I’ve been walking around all day randomly saying “Silharrrrrrrrrrra” with rolled r’s. I have clearly have issues. HE’S SO DAMN SEXY!
Master of Crows, Silhara of Neith is a very powerful mage in a world where having magic and lots of it makes you a very important person. Silhara of course is feared and detested. His power scares his counterparts and Silhara has no qualms encouraging that fear. But when the God of Corruption sets his sights on Silhara, he has no choice but to seek the help of the very people he despises or risk being possessed and ruled by a malevolent God. The Conclave, mage priests and rulers of everything, send Martise, a gifted translator of long forgotten and dead languages with repressed magic of her own to Neith with the triple task of helping Silhara find a way to defeat Corruption, spying on him and reporting any transgressions that would warrant killing him and unlocking her powers. The stakes are high for Martise as her freedom hangs in the balance, but she doesn’t anticipate falling for the man she’s been sent to betray.
So, I adore this book! Grace Draven, marry me so I can lock you in a room where you can write these amazing stories for me 24/7. Okay so maybe that’s a bit crazy but I seriously loved this book! Everything from the characters to the overall story line. What I love most about these characters is they’re always just ordinary people. Silhara isn’t described as some strong and sexy God of a man who can lift boulders and blind the world this his stunning smile. He’s a tall lithe man with an immense amount of power, an endearing sense of humility and amazing work ethic. Martise is your everyday girl equipped with quick wit, an amazing brain and an immense amount of loyalty and compassion. There are no cocky kings or entitled princesses and I love that about this book. There’s nothing WRONG with stories that use those tropes, but its just easier to empathize with characters I can genuinely relate to. These characters wake up and go to work everyday just like I do.
I enjoyed the passion and intensity this book delivered the most. Silhara is fighting against Corruption every day all while trying to maintain his home, unlock Martises power and battling his growing feelings for her. There was always so much FEELING while reading this book. There was never a moment where I wasn’t either swooning like a loon, terrified, excited, angry or worried. When an author can make their reader so invested in a book and its characters that they think about it all day, when they wake up, use the bathroom, work and right before they go to sleep, they’ve definitely done something right.
Now...the overall story arc of Silhara battling Corruption and Martise being the key to him possibly defeating him, was a little bit confusing in the beginning and I was questioning why I should even care. But after a while I started to see it as a plot device for Silhara and Martise gaining a deeper bond. It kind of became a backdrop to relationships being built between all of the characters and a way for their bond to become even stronger. Which was fine with me, I’ll take all the feels you want to give me Grace. ALL OF THEM!
I don’t really know what the next book is going to be about and I’m contemplating if I should even read the synopsis....I don’t think I will. I think I just want to dive in. Silhara has a white stripe in the front of very long and luscious hair now...and here I was thinking there was absolutely no way he could ever be any sexier than he already was. WRONG Daisa...SO wrong.
If you haven’t read anything by Grace Draven yet....Check it out okay? Just do it.

❤️ Silhara is the dark hero who would burn the world for the FMC that I never knew i needed 💕 Was also romance/relationship building-focused and surprisingly filled with caring domestic scenes!!
💔 Had a slow start, to help set-up the world-building; but picks up soon enough

Very different sort of magic system. I didn’t always totally understand what was going on or how they actually defeated the evil but it was interesting. I liked the characters but I think it was a bit too long and I didn’t really get why she kept some of the secrets she did.
