Mrs. Harris wants a Dior dress. She scrimps and saves for three years to pay for a trip to Paris to get one. And, along the way, has a fantastic journey and touches the lives of several people.

This was super cute. Quick read. Just really charming.

I wanted to read this after seeing the movie preview.

The dialect isn't always easy.

A very cheering read about kindness and perseverance. It was perfect for holiday reading as it's very light-hearted and short.

There's really not a lot to say about this book other than it is a lightly comical, pleasant and altogether rather silly (in a good way) read.

The plot revolves around a char woman names Mrs. Harris, who falls in love with the idea of owning a dress created by Christian Dior. She saves her money, goes to Paris, and there impacts the lives of various impressive French personages including models, fashion managers and more.

It's beautifully written, and although there's nothing in the book that will stay with you forever, it has this sort of sadness and beauty to it that is a charming undertone to the comedy and heart of the whole book. I loved Mrs. Harris ('arris) and I found the rest of the characters enjoyable too, even the nasty little actress that she cleans for in London.

It's only not full marks because I felt it was a bit nothingy overall - the messages of the book are good and pure, but it's nothing groundbreaking. I have heard there are others in the series, and I will definitely hunt them down.

Also, there's apparently a film with Angela Lansbury too - I CAN'T WAIT to see that!

The perfect book if you want something slight and uplifting that will leave a smile on your face.

I remember loving this book as a young girl. After seeing the movie — which was horrible! — I felt the need to reread the story. It was just as charming as I remembered.

A char's got to have her dream dress from Dior. A charming, old-fashioned story. Loved it and may read more from the series.

Such a delightful and easy read, perfect for a break between the more intricate storylines I’m used to. This was a book club read and made me want to find a European flower market to explore.

Favorite quotes:

“They were worlds apart in everything but the simplicity of their humanity, and so they were really not apart at all.”

“… and the blond, serious-minded, grave-faced and scarred M. Fauvel who overnight had changed from an adding machine into a boy and a lover.”

Utterly delightful, and yet a tiny bit heartbreaking, too. Wouldn't have missed it for the world!
