I liked this book better than the first in the series, partly because the introduction is done and Kate Connor is fighting demons from the start, and partly from the addition of David Long as a mysteriously familiar high school teacher. In [book: California Demon], demons have arrived in San Diablo in search of a mysterious book, and Kate's daughter Allie is helping with a Surf Team fundraiser. Could the two events be related? These books aren't quite "Buffy as a soccer mom," as one reviewer claimed, but they are pretty good.

Loved this book! Quirky and cute, and still entertaining. Can't wait to read the third one. =)

California Demon is the second book in the Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series. it picked up about 4 months after the last book and dragged me into the depths of “Momhood” all over again. i wont go into much detail as the read is well worth the hours you would put into it.

after surviving the last book, Kate is caught up in another treacherous demon scheme where she has to save humanity from high level demons. this time she has extra worries though.. Chapter one begins the problems with her deceased husband. secret notes from him, bank accounts.. and HIS SOUL POSSIBLY INHABITING THE BODY OF HER DAUGHTERS SCIENCE TEACHER! man… its like a soap opera for me,, i cant get enough..

The demon hunting soccer mom returns in book two. I really thought book one, Carpe Demon was clever, so I made sure to pick up numero dos. I didn't like it very much at all, and felt it was a complete re-tread of material presented in book one, with a few plot twists. Disappointing.

I felt I waded through this book a bit, Kate's family life just isn't that interesting to me, or rather I should say her daughters swim -boy crush wasn't (which meant I missed a big hint) and neither is second husband's political job. I like her friendship with her neighbor - that's about the only think that feels real to me.

I think it really irks something in me that she doesn't have a education or a part time job at least. Demon-hunting could count but not for good pay or something "normal". Nor does she desire one. Sure you could say she is supposed to be a at home mother/housekeeper & cook but she doesn't really do that. Her husband suspects something is up (finally!)...but he thinks she's cheating?

There was a cheating husband in this but it was her friends.

But...what she learns about her first husband makes her suspect he is still running about in another man's body.....

There is also the small fact that her daughter knows about demons now. So despite so many misses I am still going to finish this series.

The moral of this story seems to be: raising children is more difficult than fighting demons.

California Demon is the second in the series of The Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom. Kate Connor is that mom. Balancing a teenage daughter, an active toddler, a husband running for office - and oh, yeah, killing demons that happen to invade her California town! Not to mention the secret part. Didn't I mention that? Only Kate's best friend, her former trainer and her guide (kinda like a Watcher) know her secret. So it's not like she can encourage her husband to pick up the toddler because she is busy tailing a demon!!!

A demon is targetting the kids at Kate's daughter's school. Kids are acting strangely - even for teenagers. And there's a new teacher who seems to be taking an overt interest in these same kids. Now it's Kate's job to find out if he's friend or foe - before it's too late!

I love this series. I was a huge Buffy fan, and these books make me feel like Buffy grew up and is living in the suburbs. My rating: 3/5

Okay, so this is not literature by any stretch of the imagination. But it was a lot of fun, and pretty well-written, and I love the characters and the quirky storylines. I can't wait to read the next one in this series.

Welcome to San Diablo. The perfect place to raise a couple of kids. And a lot of Hell.

What’s a mother to do, when there are only so many hours in the day, and the fate of the world is in her hands?

Kate Connor was a retired demon hunter. Now, after fourteen years busting her tail as a suburban housewife, raising two kids, and supporting her husband’s political ambitions, she’s rejoined the workforce -- and except for a few minions of evil, no one has a clue. She tries hard to keep her home and work lives separate -- a good idea when your job involves random slaughter.

Between fending off demon attacks, trying to figure out why the mysterious new teacher at the high school seems so strangely familiar, and keeping a watchful eye on her daughter’s growing infatuation with a surfer dude, Kate is the busiest -- and most dangerous-- soccer mom
