The negative reviews here are pretty surprising to me. While Nick Hornby isn’t a writer for everyone - and who is? - I think “Juliet, Naked” tells such a lovely, light story. And as a musician, I feel an extra connection to it. It appreciates and has fun with the strangeness of love and friendship in a way that a lot of authors might see as “schmaltzy.” It’s not vitriolic, and it doesn’t mean to be. if you want that book, Hornby has several. But if you want a read that you can just enjoy and relax with, “Juliet, Naked” is definitely one of those for me.

Read only 10% of the book and OMG are the main characters pretentious and irritating? Love Hornby's novels - hate this one with a passion.

If there was a 1/2 star option I'd probably give it 3 1/2 as its not quite as good as High Fidelity or About a Boy. It was a quick, funny, enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend this to my btx friends for its take on internet message boards.

Another solid Nick Hornby book. He is such an intriguing writer with deeply flawed, yet likeable characters. This book didn't initially draw me in, but it grew on me. The ending, particularly one detail, bugged me quite a bit to the point of not giving this an additional star. Still, would recommend this one, particularly if you're a fan of Hornby's other work.

Here we have an obsessed music geek, his 'I'm wasting my life being in this relationship' partner, and the recovering alcoholic, absent father who decades ago wrote the album that the music geek adores. Hornby fleshes out the characters well enough, and there are only a few of them, which helped me get into the story. It's an easy read, and I also got a clear picture of the seaside town in which two of the characters live.

What kept it from being an even better book, for me, is the pace, and the lack of resolution. Not a lot happens externally. Internally, much inner musing and soul-searching and other things occurs. Yet suddenly, the book is over, and the ending felt a bit too slapped on. If you're a big Hornby fan, you might love it.

The audio book for this is great. Different actors for the different voices, and they're very good.

I guess I am disappointed. I loved High Fidelity and thought Fever Pitch was good. This was boring and didn't do anything for me. I wanted to enjoy it, but couldn't grasp any of the characters. I didn't like it for the same reasons I don't like Seinfeld, no one character grabs me. I don't care who ends up with whom etc.

I didn't love this one as much as High Fidelity, and it took me forever to get through (which is surprising for Hornby). It was still good nonetheless.

I always WANT to like Nick Hornby books - I don't always succeed. This one, I loved.
