This case was crazy, scary, and awesome. I adored Eve in this one, and I loved how she handled things!
An extremely difficult case for Eve and Feeney, with a killer that managed to evade them years ago returning to the city and a race against time to catch him before he kills his next victim.
Roarke works this case with them from beginning to end and gains new appreciation for what Eve really goes through every time.

A very demanding case that runs Eve and her team to the ground before its satisfying conclusion.

This one falls under a mystery/thriller category. I like the character building in this series of books. This particular one was very intense. Serial killer, back in action in New York after 9 years... Will they catch him this time with eve Dallas as primary? A real page turner that kept me guessing and wanting them to catch this killer!!
(2020 Popsugar Reading Prompt: A book from a series with more than 20 books)
The In Death series are not books where I can binge read several in a row. There are too many "tics" that I eventually start annoying me:
Some mention of Eve standing for the dead
Eve being bitchy to Sommerset for no reason
Eve being an asshole to someone trying to do their job and then threatening them with jail and/or a warrant (many times before identifying herself as a cop)
Eve drinking too much coffee and not getting enough food/sleep
Eve disdaining anything "girly"
I could go on.
But overall, I do enjoy the series; this is the 25th book I've read. However, there a few times I had to reread a passage because I couldn't understand what was being said...it was almost like there was a word missing. They all happened to be passages that were using Robb's futuristic slang so I don't know if I wasn't getting the slang (which I have never had a problem with before) or if was some weird formatting/editing error in my e-book. Also, at one point we're in Rourke's point of view and he's watching Eve talk to a group then turn the floor to "him." Since we're in Rourke's head at this point "him" should be Rourke, but no, it's someone else completely so the dialogue ends up being confusing. Again, not sure if this was an editing issue or an e-book issue.
I also have a HUGE complaint about a nickname given to Det. Callendar. At one point, McNab calls her, "D-Cup." I thought, surely he cannot be referring to what I think he's referring to. He is. He also calls her "Tits." I'm sure it's supposed to be a we're-just-joking-it's-all-in-good-fun nickname, but this is just so awful, especially in a work setting. And especially since her nickname for him is "Blondie." Contributing to the skeeviness is Rourke noticing her "rather impressive breasts." Ugh, no. I'm not happy with Callendar referring to Rourke's ass either, but tits just really bothered me.
When it comes to the story, I wasn't as invested as others in the series. It seemed like they had almost every character in the series make an appearance (in addition to adding new ones), which all became a little overwhelming at times. However, it did highlight how much man power went into the investigation and just how tedious police work can be.

Another great entry into the Eve Dallas series. I totally agree with one reviewer that says she uses these books as like a palette cleanser, it kind of refreshes your mind. The killer in this story was a real slick one, but once Eve got on a roil there was no stopping her. Also, Roarke really got to get in deep wiiith the police work on this book and it gave him even more insight into his wife’s mind when she’s on a case and all the monotonous steps that come before the exciting parts.
Creepy killer for sure! Enjoyable (especially because there was no internal drama between Eve and Roarke...I'm still kind of pissed at him)
This book was friggin creepy. One of the more disturbing of this series, just because the bad guy, and all his descriptions, were soooo horrifying.
I guess this makes this an amazingly written book though, because damn. I was scared.

Full disclosure - this is one of my top two favourite series, so factor that in to your consideration of the validity of this review.
Another winner in the In Death series!
Eve is called to a murder scene that is chillingly familiar to a case she investigated when she and Feeney were still partners years before. Called "The Groom" the murderer tortured his victims in horrifying ways and was never caught. It has always infuriated Eve that the victims never got the justice they deserved because the team couldn't catch him.
Aside from Feeney and Eve, several other members of the team also worked on that case, and so it's personal, and every one of them is determined that this time the killer will be caught and put into a cage, but they have to find him first.
This is a case where everyone's emotions are running high. The tone of this book is more intense than many of the others, so there is less of the snappy repartee that characterizes a lot of other installments. But because of the determination Eve always has to stand for the victims, you so want her to catch the one that got away that you don't really mind.
There are a few lighter moments, like when Mavis shows up with her new baby and whips out a boob to nurse her right at the breakfast table with Eve and Roarke sitting right there.
And, of course, there's always a moment or two for Eve and Roarke to have some nooky.
In short, one more fabulous installment in this fabulous series.

Somebody is kidnapping and torturing women and writing the time they lasted on their body. This is similar to a case Eve was involved in many years ago. Unfortunately they are picking women all involved with Roarke so he's taking this very personally. Peabody and Ian are so funny like usual in this book. Although they seem to be annoying Eve a bit less. On to the next book.
This was a nice Eve Dallas book but it wasn't that creative. I hate it when it follows up on a previous case that Robb never wrote. How am I supposed to possibly understand a case that occurred nine years ago in your world if you didn't previously mention it?! It was an interesting murder premise and I love the ultimate power move Eve pulled in the final interview. My only complaint is that I did not like the unnecessary fight Feeney pulled with Dallas. I'm too emotionally invested in these characters and I did not care one bit for him yelling at her when she discovered a new aspect of the case without consulting him before a briefing. She's trying to help you, bro! It's for the good of the case! It was also super weird to read this in hardcover because I removed the dust jacket to protect it and I was not used to the odd breakup of text to fit the pages. It was a cool installment but I am banging my fists on the examination table for some more Dr. Louise and have a rad gossip fest with the medical examiner, Dr. Morris.
