My favorite personal growth books are actually more like reflective memoirs. Bogel is excellent at this, as witness from her two previous non-fiction books, but this one will really speak to anyone with anxiety, insomnia, racing what-if thoughts, and who just wonders, time and again, if they're doing the right thing - from the minutia to the bigger deal. She throws in some psychology about things like decision fatigue and stress, but really, its the personal stories, like giving a homeless man money and worrying that you should have given him a granola bar too, that had me fighting tears and feeling SEEN. Her books are like a two bite brownie - they're perfect the size they are, but you want the next one soon!

This book was such a delightful read! I underlined and put stars and brackets around so much of it. Whether you struggle with overthinking or not, it’s an excellent read!

As a chronic overthinker (and someone who has, at times, debilitating levels of anxiety), I spent last winter collecting resources in order to begin searching for healing in 2021. Don't Overthink It was the first book I picked up, and I think it's a great starting place for anyone wanting to work on their mental health.

I enjoyed Bogel's writing style, and her use of personal anecdotes was helpful for me to visualize the ideas and lessons she puts on the page. My highlighter got quite a bit of use due to the great points she makes throughout the book. My rating of 3 stars reflects what I said above: this is more of an introduction to overthinking, and I think it will be most helpful for the average person who deals with the peskiness of an overactive brain. For those dealing with complex mental health issues or intrusive thoughts/negatively reinforcing thoughts, it's a nice starting point (but certainly won't act as a bandage to the issues at hand).

Overall, Don't Overthink It is a handy little resource for reminding yourself of some simple strategies to combat overthinking.

This was great for me. I am a big overthinker and it eats up so much precious time. The practical tips in here gave me lots of tools to use for all the different kinds of overthinking I do. I'll be referring back to this one again and again.

Anne Bogel runs my favorite bookish podcast and has written two other books that I very much enjoyed, so I was extremely excited to get an ARC of this with my pre-order bonus.

There’s not much to say, and in testament to everything I learned from this book, I’m not going to overthink this review. Her writing style is delightful, conversational, and makes you feel like you’re having a cup of tea with a very knowledgeable friend. The tone is warm and understanding.

What I love about this book is that there is science behind it, but since Anne isn’t a scientist, she explains things in a way that the average reader can understand. There are anecdotes galore, and everything is so relatable, whether you’re male, female, in your 20s or in your 60s. I loved this books, and will definitely read it and pass it on to others.

Many thanks to Anne Bogel for offering such a great pre-order bonus, and to NetGalley for providing the ebook.

While there was nothing earth shattering in this book, there were some good ways to reframe your perspective when dealing with the multitude of choices to make each day. I don’t think the book is meant to deal with complex and serious choices but rather the day to day choices that can bog us down and sap our energy. It was an easy read and I came away with a few thoughts and ideas on how to reduce the amount of contemplation about decisions that do not need to be contemplated quite so much.
