Fairydale is a beautifully written and unique love story that stands out from anything I’ve read recently. I really enjoyed the historical gothic elements and the shifting timelines, which added depth and atmosphere. At times, it was a bit confusing (and honestly felt like a total mindf*ck 😂), especially in the beginning, but with patience, the pieces fall into place. Some sections did drag a little and could’ve been trimmed down, but overall, this was a haunting, captivating story that’s worth the read. I’d definitely pick up more books by Veronica Lancet in the future.

I really enjoyed this book overall. The chapters are a bit long, and the second half almost felt like it could have been a separate book entirely. In fact, I wouldn’t have minded a sequel covering the journey that’s mentioned toward the end. That said, the ending was satisfying.
The beginning does a great job of making you question everything—you’re not quite sure what’s going on or who to trust. As the story progresses, some things become more confusing while others invite speculation. Gradually, the answers begin to unfold, which makes for an engaging read.
If you're someone who likes to read with an investigative mindset—looking for clues, forming theories, and piecing things together—you’ll probably enjoy this book a lot.

This was a long book but I more or less liked it.
Pay attention to the trigger warnings ⚠️
Some sex/ blood play sex scenes were probably unnecessary or too long. Some gore/violence/S.A. was very explicit and yet some I didn't even see a gore until my best friend told me something I was telling her was definitely gore.
Overall I enjoyed this story. It jumps between 3 timelines and I like how it was done. The story kept you thinking “What the heck is really going on? What am I reading? WHY?”. The author gives winks to what is happening with her choice of words and I figured some things out partially(some of my conclusions were way off).

Everything but the ending was immaculate to me. The ending just was lackluster. After EVERYTHING these two went through I couldn’t comprehend how simply ended. But nevertheless I did love it.

I loved the gothic atmosphere and how Fairydale itself felt alive with secrets. Darcy was easy to connect with, and the push and pull between Caleb and Amon kept me attention. The book is definitely a slow burn, and at times the felt longer than it needed to be. I also noticed a few errors, but the atmosphere and characters won me over.

Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the chance to read Fairydale by Veronica Lancet. My opinions are my own.

3/5 Stars

I truly wish I could give this more than 3 stars, especially considering the sheer length.

The beginning had me hooked! I was intrigued and wanted more. And boy, did I get more—way too much more. Three different lifetimes of reincarnation? That wouldn’t have been a problem if it hadn’t been so long-winded and dragged out. There’s a difference between a slow burn and just being excessive, like Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, but without the payoff. Each main female character lived a very isolated and boring life, and I wish that at least in the present timeline, she had gone outside more, mingled, and talked to the townies. I feel like the Peirce family had potential, and their plotline was just pushed aside.

Some scenes didn’t quite land for me. A few moments felt cringy, and I struggled with the dialogue, which didn’t always feel authentic to the time periods being portrayed. There were stretches where the characters seemed to be stalling, just sitting around instead of moving the plot forward or answering the big, intriguing questions. I wanted to know more about the world: Is it another dimension? Another planet? Are they fae, aliens, or something else entirely? Are there others like them, or are they truly unique? I feel like there was a lot of telling us what happened rather than actually showing it and weaving it into the story.

If this book were 200 pages shorter, I’d probably bump my rating up to 4 stars. I saw most of the twists coming from a mile away. I really wish it had stuck with the spooky, fall vibes from the beginning and leaned more into the paranormal. Also, why did her dad leave her an inheritance and fake his death? That plotline felt unresolved. The ending felt a little anticlimactic. And the tail? Maybe I’m just not that into smut...

Personally, I would’ve preferred the story to stay grounded in the present, with maybe a few flashbacks or journal entries to hint at past lives and incorporate more of the town. The town being named Fairydale alone feels like it should have played a bigger role in the story. I liked the reincarnation concept—it just became tedious. This wasn’t a slow burn; it was long-winded and exhausting.
