Sara Bareilles is a beautiful and open soul. She presents herself in a way that many people can relate to her. I enjoyed reading this book, I love her music, and I appreciate her openess to flaws and beauty that belong to us all.
As a huge Sara Bareilles fan, I was thrilled to get approved for her memoir on Netgalley. Each of the eight chapters uses one of her songs as an epigraph and framework for a chapter of her life. I loved learning more about her childhood, progression through the music industry, creative process, and her latest project, Waitress (premiering on Broadway this month). ♥

I already loved Sara from her songwriting style and beautiful voice but this book convinced me that she is an even more lovable person. I will be a forever fan of this inspiring star. She is so relatable and funny in telling her life story. I especially loved that she told some stories about her biggest songs and how she came to write a musical. She is the kind of person I hope I can be, as a musician and as a person.
I love Sara Bareilles and her songwriting talent, so I was excited to see how that translated to writing a book. She tells the story of writing the song "I Won't Write You a Love Song" when her producers asked her to write one. Sara didn't want to be told what to do. Well, this book could have been entitled _I Won't Write You a Memoir_.
I have read memoirs that are more tight-lipped than this one (looking at you, Sam Heughan), but this was scant on personal details and very safe. It felt like it didn't need to exist at this point in her career and didn't have much of a purpose.

3.5-4 stars. I think it may have been my headspace but it took me a lot longer to connect to what I was listening to than I expected. I got more invested the farther along I got. I definitely love and admire Sara B and her music. I do want to go out and re-listen to all of it now.
Excellent, simply excellent.
1) I love...adore...admire Sara B
2) Sara B's songs have truly changed my life.
3) I choose you basically cemented my partner and I.
4) I cannot wait to see the Waitress
5) Sara B's concerts are perfect.
6) -Important- 1-5 are not important in loving this book.
Wow. Just great. Fully relatable. The letters to her younger self made me cry. The stories of youth and college were so relatable. This is good and all should read. Fan or....well....you should be a fan by now....just saying.

I find it hard and a bit judgmental to rate bios on here. This one was good and authentic and showed me a side of her I never knew… which I guess is the point. I liked that she had a tie in to the Taylor Swift-verse and I enjoyed learning that at its core, Brave is a queer anthem.
I did not know this till now, but what young Sara went through is literally me.
This book is really wholesome, like a friend telling you her life story. It's not overtly happy, neither overtly sad, it just is. Also, the effect of the songs prefacing each chapter in the book is just wonderful.
P.S. Read this book to get the actual story behind "Love Song".

Okay, I usually don’t assign a star rating to memoirs because who am I to judge how someone tells their story? But this was too phenomenal not to give its 5 star due.
I’ve always been a Sara Bareilles STAN. From the moment I heard “Love Song,” and subsequently discovered she sings perfectly in my range, she quickly became a favorite of mine. This book just affirmed what I feel like I already knew - if I met her, we would absolutely be best friends.
This was my first ever audiobook. You MUST experience this book in audiobook format. At the start of each chapter, we get an a capella snippet of the song of which the chapter is named. Her voice is utterly flawless and I think this adds a degree of personality to the book. Plus, Sara is animated and sassy - two traits that translate perfectly into audiobook format.
I feel so connected to her and understand her writing better. Chapter 4 made me realize how alike her past self and my present self are. Other accounts of her meeting famous people, including another favorite artist of mine, had me fangirling right alongside her. Hearing her tell her stories of failure and triumph in her own voice made me FEEL how she felt. From start to finish, this was such an enjoyable read!
