I picked this up when I was looking for a light hearted and easy read. And that’s exactly what “I feel bad about my neck was” was. A very easy and funny read filled with both relatable and very unrelatable stories. I loved all of Nora’s thoughts about her love for reading and reading as a child. I’m in my 20s so a lot of the chapters were like glimpses into the future. 3.75 stars because although it was a fun read, there was also moments where Nora’s privileged opinions irritated me.

3.5 stars - another book stolen from charlotte’s goodreads, I enjoyed listening to it and it was funny and super interesting to hear a first hand account about the 60s 70s 80s in New York. The first few essays including the titular “I Feel Bad About My Neck” were not my favorite though, because I simply could not relate, Nora Ephron and I come from such different generations and such different ideas of womanhood and like I’ve never once remarked on the fact that women’s necks start to get saggy starting as early as 40 and now I’m looking at everyone’s necks on the bus because of her. And like “On Maintenance” I get it the pressure to look young have your hair dyed etc but complaining about how long it takes to get a mani pedi?? As the book went on I liked it more though, especially the essay about her apartment

This book is a little hit-or-miss for me. Uncharacteristically, Ephron’s writing sometimes feels a little impersonal in this book. There are some parts that read very whiny and privileged, and not in a fun way, like it usually is.

Still, the book is lighthearted and fun. It is great writing, obviously, just not my favorite of her work.

I love the ending. I think it is very strong and incredibly touching. Changed my opinion of this book.
