This will be a DNF. I like the trope: single parent, but I didn't care for the writing. You could tell where this story was going from the beginning. The characters just weren't believable to me.
All The Feels
Y’all If you’re looking for a book that has it all, look no further! This book will make you laugh, cry, scream and be fully ready to punch someone. Dexter is a romantic at heart but has been burned one too many times. Lanie is a sassy spit fire who has been dealt a raw deal in life. Step into the magic and watch these two overcome the obstacles and figure out what life could look like if they both opened their hearts to the possibilities. And I cannot wait to hear more about the other men in this chosen family.

Wasn’t a big fan on how this was written or the plot. I was able to finish it but I wouldn’t reread.
This is Avery Maxwell debut novel I can't wait to see what she has in store.
This is book one of the Waverley-Cay but you can read it as a standalone.
Dex is a single father to a non verbal son. Laine who was a child social worker is looking for a less stressfull job after a horrific attack. Takes a job with Dex for caring for his children. Him and a group of his friends make a task to help Dex get Laine to be his.
This was an amazing book, I couldn't put it down and I wanted more.

Fun and flirty
Now this is a family, or families, I would love to become a part of. Witty dialogue. Heartbreak. Romance. And a happy ending. What more can a girl ask for?

Awkward, clumsy and poorly written. Backstory shoe horned in repeatedly to the narrative, no suspense/build to the relationship. Male MC is supposed to have an older child but doesn’t know anything (like nothing at all??) about raising his younger ones? Within 24 hours of the female MC starting a new job working in male MC’s home, the main characters are already trading explicit banter?

Cross My Heart is the first book in the Broken Hearts series by Avery Maxwell and let me tell you, it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The single dad/nanny trope is one of my favorites and this was executed AMAZINGLY.
Single dad, Dexter, needs a nanny and Laney is looking for an escape so she applies to be his nanny. They get off on a pretty hilarious start and it only grows from there.
I loved everything about Dexter (and his friends). My FAVORITE though is the text messages between him and his guys and his MLM plan. Honestly that just made this book a stellar hit.
I can't wait to read Trevor's book next!
