Premise was good. Plot was horrible.

Loved both main characters and their development throughout the book. Not gonna lie the text messages between the love interest, his friends and her best friend made me giggle more than once.
Loved to read a segment of the next book within this one. I really enjoy when authors are able to incorporate the relationships of future books in the previous ones. Weil definitely continue reading this series

This was a solid single parent x nanny book. There was a number of things about this book that I enjoyed but Tate and Lanie's relationship takes the cake for me. I loved watching them heal each other without even really realizing it at first. I liked everything Dex was doing to show her he was in it for the long haul. Overall this was a good read! I didn't really understand the whole plot of doing everything "behind her back" with her family the entire time like I get it but also if that was me I would be super annoyed with my best friend lmao. Also while I was happy for their miracle babies I do wish we could have seen them have a life where she learned to be at peace with the trauma and truly understand her strength and that it didn't make her less than to have that trauma. (this is vague but I don't want to completely spoil what she went through) Thats just me being nit-picky however. Again overall enjoyed this!

Oh Mr. DEXTER CROSS you sir, are amazing.

The meet cute is fabulous. I love when a woman puts a man in his place. Lanie does just that and I LOVE that we get Dexter's POV for it.

This book has just about everything I love about romance stories. You have a strong female lead, yes she has little in the self-esteem area given her background, but what she lacks in that she makes up for is SASS.

Then you have the male lead who goes above and beyond for the girl. Amazing side-kick characters. LOTS of them. I'm not sure which ones I love most.

So the 'just about' part. The time jumps are great. I love a story that moves and isn't instant. But there are jumps where I want some of that time explained. Like the girls first birthday. Their first steps etc. We miss those while we fall harder and root louder for Dexter to get his girl.

Then you have the cliche and I was whole-heartily disappointed in it. For ONCE I would love a story line to stay on track. I will admit I did smile and will look forward to short novellas about this time in their life, but eh! I wish it hadn't gone that way.

She makes everything about her.

As soon as I started reading Cross My Heart, I knew that Avery Maxwell would become a new favorite author. The superb writing, the magnetic characters, and the story spoke to me. The more I read, the more I said, "Wow." And before I realized it, I had devoured the book.

I relish discovering a new author and getting lost in their world. Add feelings, and I'm a goner. Single dad, small town, boss/employee, found family, complex past, tearjerker... I should have known I was going to love this story. Weeks later, I'm still in love and awe. I can't stop thinking about Lanie and Dex, the raw emotions and broken and put-together hearts.

If I had to choose a quote that describes the book, it would be this one: "Lanie? Do you know the difference between Mary Poppins and Maria?" She stays silent. "Maria's the one who stayed." These are powerful, brilliant words. Ones I know I will never forget.
