This book had been sitting on my Kindle for years. Why did I wait so long to read it?! (because it's a series, ooops too late now). I devoured it and thoroughly enjoyed it. The fantasy aspects of the story are among my favourite in the genre and the romance is strong and dreamy - perfect combination. The narration of the audiobook was great too. Will be hard to stop at book 1.
The Scribe was very well written, the world building parts of the story were interesting and overall it was plausible for a paranormal romance/urban fantasy (with the exception of the gun incident - because yes, a world famous director would totally think that was a good idea - not). It just wasn't for me. The only reason I read TS was because it was part of the Darkly Dreaming anthology which I picked up for a different story - and then suffered the curse of the OCD reader and felt compelled to read every other story included.
The premise of TS did sound interesting. I liked the idea of fallen angels and their descendants. The angels fell because they lusted after the hot human women. When God decided to give the angels a free pass - some of them (the forgiven) returned to heaven; and in return God looked upon their children and descendants with favor and they became The Scribes - the Irin and Irina - and they were charged with guiding and watching over humanity. Some of the fallen, however decided to live by the old maxim - better to rule in hell (or on earth as the case may be) then serve in heaven - so they decided to stay fallen. Their children and descendants - which interestingly enough seem to be only male - became the Grigori and they continued to prey on human women – in a soul sucking, leave ‘em for dead, incubi sort of way.
Ava, who has heard voices all her life and was thought to be mentally ill; was flitting about remote areas of the globe looking for peace and working as a free-lance photojournalist when she landed in Istanbul and attracted the attention of both the Grigori and the Irin. It soon became apparent that Ava was something, but crazy wasn’t it.
My complaints with the story are that not much actually seemed to happen. The pace felt incredibly slow. The romance when it developed between Ava and Malachi was quite sweet, but boring and lukewarm at best. The sex which was not overly graphic did nothing to salvage things in the romance department…and with nothing much else going on…
The story which is part of a trilogy, ends on a MFN – that would be a “miserable for now” – which is OK because there are 2 more books in which something needs to happen. I just can’t bring myself to care what that might be.

I laughed. I cried. I bought the next two in the series.
It's a slow burner but give it chance and it will hopefully hook you as it did me.

As supernatural romance goes, this is fun. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could, but I'm rounding up because I really enjoyed it, cliched romance roles and all.
Wow this book did not disappoint! I had received many recommendations, and I thought that this book was great! I loved the suspense and mystery surrounding Ava. I loved that Ava was independent and really just wanted a simple life. I also enjoyed her meetings in the beginning with Malachi. The book moved fairly quickly, but I think that was a good thing. The mystery could've been dragged out more, but that would've annoyed me. As it was I felt that these progressed at a nice pace, and I enjoyed the fact that everyone was concerned about the mystery that surrounds Ava's birth.
The author did a great job of creating a mythos that seemed believable and real. She also did a great job in explaining it in a way that made it very relevant and didn't make me feel like it just droned on and on. The only thing preventing me from giving this book 5 stars is the ending. I was just so horrified that after so much time and effort that something like that could happen. I'm hoping for good things in the next book.

I really should find some kind of short review format, you know, for when you want it short, when you are out of time, or when you should be doing something else ;)
Ok let's see.
Story:
There is a world unknown to us. Where strangers lurk in the shadows. Who are they, what are they? Ok so it's the old boy meets girl, boy saves girl, girl falls for boy but something bigger is going on. And I sure wanted to know what.
World.
Interesting build-up, a bit more info each time. I like the world.
Hero:
Your usual kind of hero, Malachi is strong, a bit brooding, protective and wants his woman.
Heroine:
She, well ok one thing bugged me but I got over it. It does make sense. Anyway. She has issues. But she tries to be strong and independent.
End:
Holy F how evil. Luckily I read the prologue for the next book at once.
Conclusion:
Interesting concept. But sad in a way, cos of the whole how their world are.

The Scribe was much better than I was expecting it to be. I have read a few of the authors other books and didn't care for them so when this was the pick for my book club this month I wasn't expecting to enjoy it. And at first I thought I wouldn't. The prologue with lots of dialogue just didn't work for me. Really I don't like how the author writes her dialogue and I am not sure why. It feels off to me so it bothers me. But then we got into the story and I did enjoy it (as long as it wasn't large texts of just dialogue). It was fun and different and there were a lot of thing to like about it.
Ava has always heard voices. Not like she is crazy and hears voices in her head, but that she hears a voice coming from every person she is near. It is always speaking the same language, but it is a language she doesn't understand and cannot find. Her mom worries about her, tries to do everything to keep her safe, but nothing has helped her with these voices.
When she arrives in Istanbul things start to change. She meets Malachi whom she thinks is the guard her step-father employed to watch over her. She is drawn to him and she isn't sure why. But does he feel the same? And what is going on with all these other people that keep following her? Will she be able to find the answers she is looking for here?
I really loved Malachi and the backstory there. What was going on, who all the players were and their history. I especially loved how touch played into the story. It was not something sexual, but something everyone needs, but have been without for so long. I don't want to give everything away, but it was really interesting. This is probably the first book with this kind of theme that I have enjoyed. And I can't wait to read the next ones to see what happens next.

Exciting and breathtaking series
I cannot praise this story enough, honestly it has it all. A lonely woman trying to understand her differences in a world of normal. The Srcibe who finds himself fascinated by her, with a pressing urge to protect her. The evil that chases her with no true safe place to be found. A fascinating world of angels and their children, mates and magic. It's amazing, vivid and utterly heartbreaking at times. I am leaving this review and heading straight for number too. I am ashamed to say it's taken me way to many years to read this! I cannot recommend it enough!
