Such an interesting concept for a novel and so well executed. Schwartz manages to bring the reader into the lives of these women in a way that is simple but effective, and the writing itself is gorgeous.

The ending is what really makes this book for me - Orlando is published and Lina is found, but it doesnt feel as though we have achieved true freedom, or even a grand sweeping conclusion. Despite the ending being open, and there to be expanded on by the reader, there is still closure. It really sits with you and I love it.

I was bored and couldn’t follow well. Is the author writing a story about these women or Is it just an accumulation of facts about early lesbianism? I want to like this b/c the lives of these women are important but I think I need to see this in a book rather than listen. Plus the narrator does not pronounce the Romance languages very well. I am not impressed and a bit disappointed.

ZZZZZZZZ

i like the way that this is done, but i don’t necessary think any of it is particularly innovative or new. the topics of this speculative non-fiction are well trodden ground and i’m not sure this author brought a new perspective to the white european sapphic scene of the late 1800’s, early 1900’s.
