Interesting but boring at the same time. No real personal insights or details. Halfway it became very much all the same.

I don’t know I’m still amazed to learn about successful women characterized as unfeeling or cold when they excel at what they do.

This is a fun, flowing read about an interesting icon. The tidbits and glimpse into Anna Wintour's world are interesting to anyone who has a love of fashion. Still, I feel like it breezed along a little too quickly, glossing over various eras in light copy; I am left wishing there was more to it, that it had a little bit more to say.

She’s a privileged mean girl who used people to get her way to the top.

This biography is well-researched and effectively structured. I’ve got a higher-than-average interest in couture fashion and was a fan of Vogue and Anna Wintour going into this reading. I’m a bigger fan after. She is flawed, of course, and the author does a fair job of highlighting her missteps, but her influence and impact are undeniable. The audio version is wonderfully narrated. Quoting a source in the Epilogue, the author states, “If you’re trying to climb a social ladder in New York… and you’re trying to get invited to the Met Gala… you’re always going to feel unsuccessful. If you’re trying to look for people’s validation… that’s a whole different ballgame… but if you’re talking about a love of clothing… a love of expression… a love of color… a love of culture… a love of how putting things on can make women feel about themselves and their place in the world… those are measures of success that no one woman is ever going to be able to stop someone from feeling.” That sums up why I sew custom clothing and appreciate those who value fashion as wearable art. ❤️

Fascinating, mostly nuanced (if occasionally a little fawning) portrait of a really complex public figure.
