The end angered me, the books was by moment a bit too slow for me and the very fast. The writing was beautiful and it manages to keep my attention. Some moments were really immersive and other I felt a bit more bored. The historical period is not one I am interested so it was also not easy for the book. But I liked how the machinations how we uncover slowly by slowly the true character of someone. i just feel that the ending was a bit sudden and a bit like a splosh. Emilia deserved better
Well written. It very much captures the restraints put in women during this time. The real Duchess probably died of tuberculosis but this imagined history is interesting. The character of the Duke is fairly flat and boring.
It's only January, but this is already a contender for my favorite read of 2023. Impeccable details of life in 16th-century Italy, with a compelling protagonist and storyline that will keep you reading late into the night.
Já há muito tempo que não lia ficção histórica, e a excelente capacidade da autora de criar personagens femininas “fora da norma” (para a respectiva época) atraiu-me. Foi um bom “page turner”, para descobrir o destino de Lucrezia.
