one of your typical romance books... I was actually hoping it to have a twist to it, but what I was hoping for did not happen... Having that said, it is still a good book.

This one get a point deducted because I almost abandoned it in the beginning. Laurie is whiny and complaining and begging for answers for why her boyfriend is breaking up with her, and it reminded me of boyfriends I broke up with, who did the same. It doesn't make me want to take you back, quite the opposite.

It did get better so I am glad I stuck with it. Laurie ends up befriending Jamie Carter, the office lothario, and loner. He comes across as aloof and highly ambitious. He is not making friends with his co-workers or his bosses so he hatches a plan to pretend date Laurie, who is beloved by the bosses to help make him partner. Problems is the more they spend time together the more their feelings get in the way. Very cute, lots of embarrassing moments and cute "I Will Survive" moments.

I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was unexpectedly sweet and ohh so British. I absolutely loved the slang and totally love the twists and turns to get to a happy ending. I appreciate the cleaver way they peppered in the different conversations about race and it impacted.
I’m happy I read this one.

I was a little disappointed in this mainly because it was categorized under “comedy” and it definitely isn’t one. It was an average book about a break-up of a long-term relationship and how to move past that in friendships, at work, and in love.

Ah, fake relationships.... What could go wrong?

I would usually rate this lower because there is a LOT of unnecessary profanity...but, I did enjoy it and amazingly (!) there were no intimate scenes (fade to black only), so I'm actually going to keep it at 3 stars. Just know that if language bothers you then this is a MUST skip.

I really enjoy Mhairi McFarlane's work, they are all so compulsively readable.

One thing I'll say is if breakdowns of long term relationships are triggering to you, the first half if the book will be tough. The split between Laurie and Dan is raw and visceral.
