I *loved* The War That Saved My Life and friends, this is a worthy sequel. I am in awe of Kimberly Bradley's ability to create characters that are so real, feeling emotions that are so raw that the reader can't help but feel them, too. The growth and development of these characters through the story is masterful. I just loved it. I wished it was longer, which was a thing I NEVER wish because finishing a book and marking it as "read" is one of my great pleasures. But I would spend all the time in the world with Ada.

Read the first one first. You need to. (And it is also awesome, so why would you skip it?) But then scoop this one up in October when it publishes. If you love character-driven historical fiction, you will not want to miss this!

A good ending to The War That Saved My Life!

Read together with my 9 year old. We loved it.

7/10. I good follow up to "The War That Saved My Life". It wasn't as heartbreaking as the first but Ada continues to progress and learn. There were some great thought-provoking passages about the nature of relationships and defining "enemy". In the end I was left wanting more so I hope there is a #3 in the works to finish up the "war"...

Sequels don’t always match up to the original but I feel this book does an excellent job and flowed well from the first. Such a great historical series for children!

I enjoyed this book, but I was able to keep my tears restrained. Ada matured in a different way during this book. She learned to keep her anger in check, reach out for help, and be able to help others. I wish the portions featuring Ruth were more expounded upon- I feel that she was a character that revealed a lot of depth in Ada that none of the others could reach. However, Susan and Ada's relationship became much stronger throughout this book, something I was glad to read. A good follow-up to the first novel, and although it was strong in different ways, an equally enthralling read!

I did not first read The War That Saved my Life (though I’ve only heard good things about it) and thus, a lot of the reading of this book was me being told what happened in the first installment. This, however, is not the fault of the author.

I can see that, had I read the previous story, I would have a deep understanding of the amount of trauma Ada endured. This book tells the worthy tale of her new life.

Just as good as the first

The War That Saved My Life is such a fantastic book that I couldn’t keep myself from getting my hands on and reading the sequel straight away. The War I Finally Won didn’t have all the magic of its predecessor, but it came pretty dang close. I thoroughly enjoyed this continuation to Ada’s story.

One of my favorite things about this book is the way Ada’s anxiety is portrayed. She has serious abandonment issues (because her mom is the WORST) and I thought they were portrayed in a very realistic way. Also—can we just say how goals Susan is as a human being? She took these kids in when they needed a positive, adult relationship and she totally stepped up to the plate.

Susan is my fav.
