Wonderful Sequel

I'm still amazed these are written for children. There is so much that happens and so many themes and topics touched on. I need more!

Loved it just as much as the first.

I am going to miss the friends I made in this book and The War That Saved My Life so much. I wish there were more books about these wonderful characters.

Just as good as the first one, if not better!

I can see why this book won so many awards. The perspective of the protagoist was one that is not heard enough in literature. I would love to use this in the middle school classroom but worry about the actions of the mother and how to address her neglect and treatment with her children. While it is realistic, I worry about it triggering students.

Loved the explanations of Jewish and Christian religions. Really enjoyed this sequel and hoping for maybe even a third one some time.

This book hit me in so many feels. So interesting to see this war and all the loss and devastation from the POV of a child. I loved how all the characters grew together - the perfect continuation of book one. This book also carries on this series’ characteristic of having the most well-written horses in fiction, especially children’s fiction, and their relationships with people. More accurately, our relationships with them.

I certainly hope more is coming in this series.
