This was the most frustrating book I have read / listened to in a long while.
Still want to give it 3 1/2 stars

Autumn Sanders is in desperate need of a job. She has just moved to New York with her mom, who is very sick and she is having to take care of. She is so far in debt that she can't see a time that she wont have bills to pay. She is applying for jobs all over New York but can't get one. Then she goes on an interview for a job but she doesn't know what the job is. During the interview they tell her the job pays $500k a year, who wouldn't want that job. What is the job, she doesn't know but when when she gets called back for a second interview, she agrees without really thinking. The second interview involves staying somewhere away from her mom for a week. This is where the fun really begins, right?

For me this is where I started to get frustrated. Throughout the story Autumn encounters several people who are also trying to get the job that she is. During her stay with them they are forced to ask themselves the question 'Is there anything that you wouldn't do for money?'

The thing that I found the most frustrating about this story is that Autumn is annoyingly naïve. She wont let things go which to me causes her to be extra winey.

Even though I found the main character to be irritating I still had to finish the book. I had to find out what was really going on. With the other applicants for the job, the other people at the house and the job. I wasn't disappointed, in fact I was very surprised and happy that I stuck with it and finished the book.

Great read!

Loved this one! I have read much of Kiersten Modglin’s work and this one is a top three. The thrills and twists do no disappoint, as usual. Check this one out, it’s a great!

3.5 ⭐️ I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job with all of the different voices and accents. The story itself was good, but not great. There were parts that seemed very repetitive, (the question and answer sessions after each meal, the word “belly” is used way too often.) There were also a lot of descriptive details that could have been omitted, (what each character is wearing, what they’re eating, what makeup Lark is wearing, etc.) Overall though this was a unique story that kept me guessing, and I was surprised and satisfied with how it all wrapped up in the end.

This was an okay read, nothing amazing happened. However the author makes you want to keep on reading to figure out what’s going on. I finished it quickly, I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t as I expected it to be. This will be great for someone who never read mystery books before, and want a book to start.

Another job well done. This book was a thriller in a different way. It had me questioning what was really going on. Recently Kiersten came to our book club meeting and I asked if any of her characters crossed over into other books. She said yes and mentioned this one and I Said Yes. We were to read I said Yes first then the dream job. I did and it was a good crossover and how it all worked together. Lifelong fan of hers

Okay, I LOVED all the twists, they kept me guessing. But I had such high hopes for this book.

I loved the beginning, then more in the middle I’m was like “Autumn, come on, use your brain.” But it left me wanting to know what the truth was behind this secret job with this monstrous salary. I did enjoy the characters and their development.

Autumn/Lark just got on my nerves. I kept thinking if you’re that worried about safety why are you telling everyone you don’t think you can trust?

The ending just left me confused, it made no sense. I was just waiting for that final twist to leave me with my jaw on the floor.

This had at least a 4-star rating until the end. I really didn’t care for the “everything is fine” ending. Does that make me a psycho? Eh, maybe. But when you tell me it’s billed as a psychological thriller, I would at least hope for a real thrill.
