This was a very fast read for me. I found it had all the charm of a Jane Austen novel, with characters who hold up to a contemporary audience. Really fun, and I’ll be holding onto this book for re-reads which is a big indicator of a good book to me!

Reread this in anticipation of the sequel being out - truly one of my favorite new authors and series since I picked up HR. And as someone who normally doesn’t pick up clean reads it’s a feat for me to enjoy a clean read! The only other series I’ve enjoyed this much (and a hair less actually) is Mimi Matthews’ Belles of London books. Can’t wait to read the sequel!

What a hidden gem!! My kind of (slow burn) romance. Easily my favourite book of the year

This is an attention-grabbing title and the cover is gorgeous. Between that, the title, and the fun premise of a historical romance where the lady is the one doing the fortune hunting, my expectations were through the roof.

Ultimately I had fun with this book and is the perfect summer read to pass time on the beach, but I wasn't blown away. The beginning is fun and was enough to guarantee I'd stick with the characters, but some of the plot developments are a bit too contrived, and adding that to the too-modern dialogues my attention started to lag. I'm glad it picked back up in the last third of the story and really enjoyed the ending, and overall it was a very fun way to spend one afternoon. Cute, comfortably predictable, ultimately harmless. OK for spending time at the beach, not the kind of romance that'll melt you inside. Cecily was very cute though and she needs to get her own book.

This was a fun Regency romance with a bit of a twist on the idea of searching for a rich husband. The relatable frustrations of societal and sexual roles are prevalent but handled with heart, witty banter, and a bit of a slow-burning romance.
