I didn't really know anything about the FLDS cult and so this was an eye opening read for me about some of the horrible things that have happened in the name of this so-called religion.

I can't imagine how difficult the situation was for all these young women who found themselves swept up in this life they didn't ask for. And I admire the bravery Rachel Jeffs along with her sisters showed to get out of the only life they have ever known and take their kids into the outside world. I admire even more that she shared this story with us as readers.

I was happy to see the pictures at the end of her living a good life with her five children and husband (she got to choose). I wish them the best.

Wow... I can't imagine going through what she went through. Couldn't put this book down. I'm so glad her and her children got out of that situation.

Eh. I was looking forward to reading this, even though I knew it would be tough to read, because cults are fascinating. Warren Jeffs is monstrous, and I can't blame Rachel for her writing style being pretty detached because you do what you have to DO to get through it. That said, I frequently found it difficult to gauge how much time had passed; it would seem like a lot had happened and then Rachel would say, "We stayed at the hiding house in Nebraska for two weeks." Oh. So alllllllllll of that was two weeks. Ok. Or like 3 years would go by in two paragraphs. It was just difficult to keep track of. My only other gripe is that omfg there were SO MANY SISTERS AND SISTER WIVES I COULD NOT KEEP TRACK OF THEM ALL. I never had any idea who someone was unless it was Becky.

Breaking Free is super dark. You know going into it that Rachel is going to get out and it's great that she finally does, but her "happy" ending didn't really do much for the fact that a) everything that happened in the book is true and b) Warren Jeffs is still alive. It brought me down so much that I finished it in one day just to be done with it. I didn't enjoy this one and don't recommend it.

This was a good audio book. It wasn’t written amazingly, but someone who grew up with very little educational and was retelling horrible things, I think she did great.

I end up angry after reading these because men who abuse under the guise of God just piss me right off.

I read a bad novel about cult, and it inspired to read a cult memoir. This one is much better than the novel I was reading, and I finished it in 3 days. It is so good that I will probably consume more true-crime-ish cult content.

There are many parts that is hard to stomach. I have to take a break in between reading.
