The first of four in my son's favorite series, this is the book that took him from "readers" at school to being a book worm -- finishing a 400+ page book in a week. He had read it several times, loved it and wanted to share with me. I understand why.

It is a fast paced spy/thriller novel -- four kids of dual CIA agents pick up the trail where their parents left off with their untimely disappearance. The book grabs your attention, moves quickly, has good illustrations, and expands a youth's vocabulary.

I loved it, and not only will I read the next in the series, I plan to read more of Patterson's adult books as well. We read together as a family, we talk together as a family that is how you grow book worms. Thank you for this great not-quite-tween YA book!

I liked this one a lot better than the Middle School books, which I hesitate to recommend. Funny, good action, if a little too much, and great illustrations.

Very Disney Channel vibes, especially with the audio book. The way the narrator read it with the Disney voice and all lol.
Fun story, but I didn’t like how the kids just believed their parents were dead and were like, “yep, whatever, let’s just keep diving for treasure!” I also didn’t like the blatant fat jokes (calling Storm Shamu?? Come on. Then with Louis/Lewis … the kids will defend their sister, but call this guy a blimp.) could have been a teaching moment for Middle Schoolers or the kids reading this, but Patterson leans into name calling instead…
