Not one of King's stronger works, Thinner struggles from being at least 50 pages too long and lacks a charismatic or likable protagonist. Halleck is a fine character for much of the book but his whining and unwarranted blame he places on his wife makes him easy to hate. I still fail to understand the animosity he held for his wife to do something that horrible to her and the ending makes an already mediocre book even less enjoyable.

Great book! Creepy in a way that was just enough to make your skin crawl but wasn't particularly scary. Sometimes I find stephen king books hit and miss but this one was definitely a hit
i have so many things to say, but i don’t know if they will be very cohesive. 1, if I didn’t know it was Stephen I don’t think I would have guessed; he did a good job of coming up with a new style for Richard. 2, midway through it was feeling vaguely like a rape-revenge film (without the rape) - i don’t want to elaborate in case of spoilers, but it was an interesting parallel. 3, at first i was just enjoying the creepy imagery and there weren’t that many outright scares, but it gets there. it certainly gets there. and the ending is the closest it gets to classic King horror. 4, on the whole, it’s not one of my favorites, but it is quite good. i would definitely recommend if you’re a fan of Stephen but looking for something just a bit different. and it will definitely stick with me for awhile.
Picked this up as a short diversion and it sufficiently creeped me out but didn't satisfy me (no pun intended). It's a pretty routine story with a somewhat chilling ending, full of stereotypes and characters you loathe by the end.
This is a re-read for me, but I found it so much better than the first time I read the book. Man mows down woman, and her father retaliates. The underlining message is two-fold. 1. Be careful of the prejudices you have against people. They can cause you health issues. 2. Carrying a grudge can weigh a person down.
