Fantastic characterization.

Read during the trans rights readathon 2024

I love police procedurals and that's what initially drew me to this book. The two MC's were interesting with enough back story to keep me intrigued. The story itself was quite gory but twisty enough that I couldn't guess whodunnit!

What I really liked about this book is this - I've read a lot of M/M but I fell out of love with the genre when I started to feel like there were too many books that were M/M by numbers. You all must have read them, guys meet, fall in love/lust, sex, the big misunderstanding, split, get back together, sex, the end. I started to think that I didn't even want to read sex scenes anymore, especially when they were just thrown into the story with no build up. This book is a slow burn on the relationship front and I love it. It's made me want to give M/M another chance.

Great book, looking forward to the next episode.

This very much felt like the beginning of a series, just an introduction of the characters but not yet in depth. Expect two stand off ish gay detectives and Criminal Minds levels of gore.

Loved every page

Why did I wait so long to read this? I have loved the other works I've read by this author, and this one was one of my favourite things I've read this year. The characters are enchanting, and the way McCade writes is such poetry that I would probably read it even if it didn't have a fantastic plot and plenty of suspense. Which, in case I'm not being clear, it does.

Can't wait to see how the sparks fly between these two in the next books...
