I have a hard time ever giving a one star rating because at least the author tried

I don't tend to write many reviews. Or read many for that matter. But, I couldn't decide if the predictability of this book should impact my rating. It was evident early on the the babies were switched. However, because it was so well-written and the flow of the story kept me engaged, I gave it the rating I did. I actually would've given 2.5 because I didn't think the sexual parts really added to the story. Also, I expected Ruth to have displayed more reaction/horror/emotion when she realized Ray was her brother. I know I did.

Ruth and Dana are two girls born the same day. their families manage to keep in touch but in a forced kind of way. Ruth is raised on a farm who helps her father but wants to pursue art. Dana is born to gypsy like parents who moves from state to state.
the story bounces back and forth between the two girls as they grow up.
about midway I had an idea of where the story was going so to me it was predictable, but not completely.
I was debating about giving it 3 or 4 stars. I decided to round up.

Great book! Read it in a day - couldn't put it down. I love the characters, although at times the "surprise" at the end seemed somewhat obvious. However, that didn't keep me from liking all the characters.

I like this author, I figured out the deal pretty early on, which I guess you're meant to but I still enjoyed it. The whole explanation at the end is pretty incredible though, wish that had turned out differently.

Having figured out the plot "twist" early in the novel, due to the clues dropped along the way, I wished that the author would have done more with it. As it stands, the "twist" needed to be more of a shock/surprise to have a strong impact on the reader.

An intense book that was recommended by my mother-in-law. She's not much of a reader, but this book she absolutely loved. An interesting story for anyone who has wondered if they were born into the wrong family because they just flat didn't fit in with anyone.
