I ran out of steam, and interest, with this book. It became a chore to continue reading and that's probably more of a personal problem than one with the book itself.

I absolutely ate up like the first 2/3rds of that book but after that I just got super confused.

Fun and engaging with poignant, slightly ham-fisted themes. A few anachronisms and editing errors including swapped names that made some scenes harder to follow. I wish it focused more on the historical and science fiction adjacent themes. Ending felt rushed.
Overall enjoyable, but I wanted to be a little deeper and tighter. Also need more of Valeriya’s story! The very first chapter was the best of the whole book.

i wanted this book to be good so bad but the plot needed a lot more refinement and editing. and the ending was horrible!! i feel like nothing actually happened in this book! the main issues are still present and there hasn’t been much character development either. i wanted sapphic vampires but just ended up disappointed

I was excited when I started it and then quickly became uninterested but I still wanted to know how it ended.
Didn’t love the pacing or dialogue and I wasn’t invested in the characters’ conflicts
Elise in particular is not my favorite. I also didn’t really like the dialogue - it felt a little too juvenile despite the serious nature of the story (people are literally dying 💀)
The ending also felt like a device to simply extend the story into another book vs having a bigger/ overarching plot line that was mentioned throughout the book
(Maybe I missed the lead up or foreshadowing but it felt random)
I mainly listened to the audiobook and didn’t love it. It was difficult to keep track of pov changes but the narrator did a great job with the other characters
