Friends to lovers. I love a good friends to lovers story. This one was okay.
Perhaps if I had read The Marshals series right before this, I might have liked it more.
These two have been friends since childhood. I loved the family but the main characters were a tad irritating.

Kelly is fantastic!!! Although he hates difficult conversations and tends to drop off the map at awkward times, he puts himself out there. He knows his worth and puts it in words.... Yes he continually let's Blue and his wishy washy ways back into his bed BUT he does it with the knowledge that he's going to end up hurt and he's always been in love with Blue so he might as well enjoy it before his heart is ripped out and desimated.

Blue... Oh Blue. He is one wishy-washy MoFo and kinda selfish. He's jealous of any guy Kelly talks to and admits that he wants all of Kelly's time and affection but isn't sure about the sex part (until he is).

There's a bunch of scenes with him flirting with OW and one of him trying to hookup with another woman to not think about Kelly. Which pissed me off. But I liked that Kelly didn't just sit back and wait for Blue like a doormat. He went out, on a date/not date, got a handjob

3.5 stars. Kelly had my heart, but Blue's waffling over what he wanted irked me, even though I kind of got where he was coming from. The ending was also quite sudden, with Blue's "epiphany" coming on so late. If I hadn't known there was a sequel I would have been disappointed. But since there is, I'll dive into [b:A Deeper Blue|39088575|A Deeper Blue (Rules of Possession, #2)|S.E. This book is about Blue and Kelly. Blue is in the NFL. We all know what that means here people. Kelly his lifelong bestie is a tatted up and pierced college physics professor. He is most definitely gay. He's also in love with a clueless Blue.

Blue knows Kelly is the most important person in his life. He misses him when he doesn't see him and craves his company. He also has started to notice the attractiveness of his BFF. When drunken shenanigans leads to a hook up, Kelly can't take it anymore and tells Blue how he feels. And round and round we go with the push pull, jealousy, and drama until Blue finally makes up his mind. And when Blue makes up his mind thats it. He's all in baby.

I liked how Blue never chastised himself over the things he and Kelly were doing . He never had those OMG self flaggilating moments where he made up excuses. He just kinda rolled with the punches a bit. Kelly, poor Kelly, I felt bad for him a lot. But I also loved being in his head especially when he was thinking about his students. His sarcasm was just fun. The ending is a HFN situation which works with this one. If you like GFY/OFY genre pick this one up

I enjoyed this but found somethings problematic. Sports romances are some of my favorites in this genre and this has the makings of excellent read. However, I did find the audiobook distracting. Two different narrators were used for Blue and for Kelly -- each narrator had a completely different voice for the other character which kept pulling me out of the story -- it was like there were four people not two. I also don't particularly enjoy books where one MC treats the other badly (in the name of creating tension). I though Blue was particularly cruel and I didn't like that about this book. Otherwise, a fun and engaging read ... I moved on quickly to the next book in this series (already completed).

This was a strong 3.75. I've said it before, and I'll say it again now: finding a diamond in the rough that is this hyper-specific genre is such a treat. Sure, it doesn't bring anything new to the table, not really. The story has been done many times before.

HERE, however, the standout element lies in reading from the point of view of Kelly... the wit, the snark, and his voice, in general, made me actually laugh several times. The difference between finding something amusing and finding it so funny that you impulsively laugh out loud is a pretty wide margin. So, with that said, if you like this genre, you'll probably enjoy this, with the added bonus of a truly delightful character's POV (even when you wanted to shake him for his dumb decisions).
