The Dating Disaster

I’m not the biggest fan of college age romance, but I wanted to keep up with the Sadenverse, especially after meeting Felix in the second DMC book. I gotta say, Marshall saved this book for me.
Felix is a big brat! I didn’t like how he reacted to his parents, especially his dad in DMC, but he was even more of brat in this book, which is 2ish years later. I understood some of his reasoning for why he acts like he does, and I don’t begrudge him for his love languages, but his reactions to things still felt childish. Meanwhile, Marshall was just so reasonable and sweet and truly a teddy bear!
Something I did really like here was the use of the miscommunication trope. Yes it’s annoying when people could easily say what they mean and then there’s no problem, but I liked how there’s a reason for the miscommunication here. Both are so wrapped up in their own worldview and wanting to feel loved in that context that they struggled to see where the other person was coming from.

This was a lot of fun, I liked the idea. It was mostly a light and sweet read, with some pining thrown in and some rejection angst for good measure. Marshmallow and Fee were cute together. Tim Paige did an excellent job with the narration too.

The entire conflict of this book could have been solved with two sentences of communication, and it was it was dragged out ridiculously long, but if you can overlook that heap of frustration, you’ll enjoy it more.

Such a sweet, sizzling college romance! 4.5 ⭐️

When I first heard of the Franklin U series (a multi-author M/M college romance series set in the same place and timeline) I was beyond excited. A lot of my favourite M/M romance authors contributes to this series and one of them is Saxon James with this fun book, The Dating Disaster!

So one point to immidiatly goes to this book just by existing in the series!

The second point, still mostly unrelated the story itself, is deserved because this story not only fits perfectly in the series but the intertwining universe created by Saxon's and Eden Finley's other books (the Sadenverse as I realized today).
One of our MC's is Felix who we first met as the exitable college freshman son of one of the MC's in Platonic Rulebook, part of Saxon's still ongoing series, Divorced Men's Club.
Our other main character is Marshall, who is the little brother of our beloved Robbie from Frat Wars: Master of Mayhem part of Saxon's college frat romance series.
I absolutely love the interconnected universe and how my beloved characters pop up in other books as well.

But let's talk about the story... the title sais it all! It starts with a dating disaster on a blind date between Marshall and Felix that sets them off on a very wrong foot... especially that they are roommates now too.
But we get to see how a first impression can transform into something totally different if you actually try and get to know the other person.

The story is told in dual POV, and it especially accentuates how different in nature our two heroes are. Felix is petite, flirtatious and a spitfire who after a few years of enjoing the college experience and hooking up with as many guys as possible, now looks for something more. At the mean time, Marshall is a sweet, gentle giant, who is demisexual *BIG KUDOS FOR THE REP* and he is also looking for someone special he can spend his relaxing nights with.

They couldn't be more different, but they are exactly each other's types and can't stop thinking about the other.

The focus of the storyline is definitely on their budding relationship which goes through some confusing but utterly obvious phases from discomfort after the dating disaster, the civility of roommates, friendship and to something more.
Felix's insecurities about never finding someone who would love him for himself covered up by flirting and a loud personality and Marshall's introverted personality paired with his demisexuality result in some awkward and hilarious and hot and sweet moments between the two.

The plot is heavy on smut which is not entirly my thing but it was needed for the relationship development.

But! Miscommunication... the trope that can go horribly wrong... fortunately, it was not the case here but Felix and Marshall's constant drama over not talking to each other, especially about their feelings felt a bit like a forced angst point in the story. Their utter obliviousness about the other's feelings and their constant inner monologues convincing themselves that the other's actions meant something that they didn't were a bit annoying by the end.

While the trope itself felt a little lacking, the sweet love story still radiated through the pages. Both MC's were absolutely loveable, their fumbling with romance was adorable and their kind love story was amazing. The supporting characters were just trying to climb from the pages and get their own stories *and some of them will in the series* .

All in all, the story was very enjoyable and joyful. I loved reading it, I loved the universe of Franklin U slowly revealing itself. I adored the characters and their awkward tumble into love. I can't wait to read more in this series!

Low-angst fluff with some spice to it. Quick read.

That story was just so cute !! I already knew Felix's personality from “Platonic Rulebook”, he has a big personality and is kind of explosive. Which is a big contrast with Marshall who is quite shy and wants to find someone to fall in love with…

The first date was clearly a disaster, when Felix discovers that Marshall is his new roommate, it doesn’t please him. He doesn’t want to face the man who basically rejected him and didn’t care at all. Marshall doesn’t know how to act around Felix, he was truly nervous during their dates and is disappointed to see Felix’s reactions to him. But Marshall has a big heart and he will do everything to ensure that Felix warms up to him

3.5⭐️ This was cute and sweet overall but all the miscommunications and wrong assumptions gave me a ton of anxiety. It’s one of those books that you just want to scream “Just be honest and talk it out!”

This was a sweet little book and I enjoyed how the queer representation was broader than a lot of queer romances. It's almost always gay and bi without any other nuance. This is only the second time I've read a book with a character who identified as demiromantic which often means needing to feel a deep connection to someone before being able to connect romantically.
