I HAVE NEVER DNF A BOOK IN ALL MY YEARS READING, NEVER!!!! I WAS SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS BOOK ABOUT TRANS JOY AND I WAS LOOKING FOWARD TO FEELING SEEN IN A CHARACTER BUT NOOOO MILES IS A FUCKING CHEATER (or he was about to anyway) IM NOT READING THIS CRAP. I was 59% in, i was loving Eric and miles, i was happy to have some god damned queer joy. IN THIS FUCKER PULS THAT SHIT?! HELL NAH!!!! I TRIED TO ROOT FOR HIM AND HE LET ME DOWN! Im so mad with this book i cant even…

—————— okay……the freaking out is over——————
Look i don’t even know how i go through that book. im just so disappointed because it could have been everything my little trans/gay heart needed and the cheating plot just throw me out of the story. And on top of that Miles justified the kiss as something he needed to do to clarify his feelings. Like…maybe don’t get into a relationship when ur still invested in your past one? Im not even gonna say anything about the whole page thing that was crap in its finest forms. Eric was just too good for Miles and he didn’t deserve him. Im sorry but i wouldn’t have forgiven Miles and i don’t think Eric should either. The 2 stars are just for Eric and Nina. Someone give my man a better love interest pls

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I had the opportunity to read this book through NetGalley and for that I am thankful.

This book was uplifting, cute, and kick ass. It’s about finding yourself and who YOU want to be, not what anyone else thinks you should be. Although it takes Miles a bit to find himself, he eventually does and if this was a TV show, there’d be a whole episode dedicated to his glow up.

It’s well written and I enjoyed the writing style. The characters are likeable and even some of them are relatable. They could’ve been a bit more fleshed out, but hey, it’s still a great read!

Thank you, Edward for sharing Miles’ story with us! I can’t wait to see what else you write. I enjoyed this book so much.

This book releases on Valentine’s Day and what a wonderful way to treat yourself or a loved one to this book!

Honestly, this was not the best read for me. Miles giving one worded, clipped answers kind of threw me off a little bit. I really wanted more thoughts on his feelings. Eric is such a like-able character though and I was really invested in the plot because he was so supportive. This was basically a huge coming of age story for every character and it worked itself out in the end but I really didn’t like Paige at all. And Miles letting go of Eric’s hand when Shane approached them was kinda shady to be honest. But this felt realistic, raw and how one person can change your whole perspective of what JOY really is.

Honestly, this book would've been a 4 stars read were it not for the slur and the cheating.

The author is a man. The character who said the slur is a man. They are NOT lesbians, and therefore they have no right to use dyke. (Before you come attacking me: I am a lesbian). It doesn't matter that it was in a dialogue where the character was relating something that happened to someone he knew. It wasn't necessary. Eric could've simply said her ex had been called a lesbiphobic slur. He didn't NEED to say it. I am honestly sick of the lesbiphobia in books, even unintended. A man, cis or trans, gay or straight or bi or pan, has absolutely no right saying the word dyke. (Also, this storyline could've been changed. Lesbiphobia isn't a plot point, I'm sorry.)

As for the cheating. It's not that I minded it. It was just unnecessary to me. I get that queer people can be messy too, that we fuck up, that we hurt the people we love unintentionally. But there was A BIT TOO MUCH of cheating for me. Miles could have understood where he stood with Shane without the kiss. And really, Paige could have talked to Rachel instead of having another fucking relationship on the side. Nice way to paint lesbians, Edward, thanks.

Other than that, the book was fine, Eric and Miles were cute, etc. etc. etc.

This was so sweet and a perfect read for Pride month. Loved.

3.5 stars A cute, coming of age story, about a boy who plays piano. The piano teacher felt unrealistic to me, but the dialogue seemed authentic.
