3.5 stars | this takes me back to my ~young days, when I watched the first two xmen movies over and over again because I had this massive crush on Jean Grey.

Superhero comics are hard to jump into—especially when it comes to the X-Men, where a billion things are happening all the time and every character has probably just died and resurrected and mutated and changed their name immediately before whenever you pick up the series starts. But whatever. This is pretty fun. And the least responsible use of time travel possibly ever.

I liked that we got to see past-Jean in this collection, because although her transition into the phoenix is clearly a super important plot point in the x-men stories, I really like her as a character before she goes crazy. I also love the newer x-men comics where Kitty has such a large role because she is probably my favorite member of the team and I enjoy reading about her. Overall I enjoyed this collection and I'll probably read vol. 2.

As much as I usually identify as a DC girl, I have a very special place in my heart for the X-Men, and I thought this was an interesting and cool storyline. I wish I knew more of the recent history of the X-Men, but it wasn't necessary for my understanding of the story being told here. The art is pretty and inoffensive (very typical superhero stuff), and I'm interested in seeing where the young X-Men go from here.

ETA: Also, this book has a lot of panels that go across both pages, and I am always always always confused when books do this. It's one thing if it's a single big panel that stretches all the way from the left to the right, but this has several smaller panels that read across both pages before going down to the next row. I initially read nearly all of these wrong. And then, by the end of the book, when I started reading all the way across both pages, they stopped doing it and resumed regular panel placements. I can understand the motivations for doing this, but I wish they would stop it.

Pretty fun. Usual kind of X-Men, time-travel nonsense

My first X-Men read and I can't wait to read the next one! It's a very friendly intro into this world - my knowledge only being of the movies and what my friends talk about.

Each character got a good chunk of page time, the artwork was awesome and there was an Avengers cameo.

I have no idea what Bendis has in store for the X-Men. I am no fan of time travel and messing around with the continuity. I do understand that Dead doesn't stay dead, (new series Amazing X-Men is a good example) and as a fan of the merry mutants it is one of my least favorite storytelling tool. Stuart Immonen is always a great X-Men artist, and the characterization of each members is finely tuned, just hope this series won't be so horrible.

I really enjoyed this comic.

Do I think this is the best starting point, not too much. I feel like there is some comics if I read previously I would enjoy this installment more so I definitely want to go back and read those first. But I do have a good background on the characters and comics due to watching too many marvel theories online so that definitely helped with my enjoyment

This was quick and easy to understand what was going on. The plot is a bit confusing but I overall had a lot of fun and flew through it.
