This was a book I literally didn't put down unless I was sleeping or eating (I even walked around the house reading it.) The ending, well I won't ruin it for those who didn't read it. The ending makes it hard to not want the sequel to be in my hands right now. I've never felt that much of a wanting toward having the next book immediately before.

I listened to the audiobook version and couldn't get in to it. I found myself ignoring it for long periods and then being lost. From what I did hear, Gideon escaped any close call by dumb luck-not by using his supposedly brilliant mind.

DNF...just not catching my interest.

Dumb dumb dumb
Don't even bother

The entire time I was reading this, I was thinking Keanu Reeves action flick, with requisite shallow character, minimal dialogue, to good to be true coincidences, and nonstop action. This is a new character (series) from Preston & Child, and perhaps it will appeal to younger audiences who want a quick thriller? Not much depth in the plot, very thin overall. Oh well, I just hope they haven't put Agent Pendergast on the shelf. ;-)

DID NOT FINISH

This is just laughably bad so back to the library it goes. DNF @ 15%.

Full of genre cliches: Hero with tragic backstory and thirst for revenge. Softhearted hooker who falls hard for our hero. Backstabbing, doublecrossing, bullets flying, bodies dropping, all the things necessary for an entertaining thriller.

An enjoyable read if you are willing to suspend your disbelief at our hero's ability to be awesome at all the things.

Another character developed by the authors, Preston & Child -- Gideon Crew. Gideon, is like a cross between James Bond, and Macgyver.

The storyline develops slowly from Gideon's childhood to present day. If you can get past the first third of the book, it is worth the read.
