Iris and Roman's love story ends with bittersweet moments, and proves that love will always find a way even in doubt, distance, and grief.

This book was good but tense! I laughed, I cried, and I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. A lot happens in this book so there was less room for the tender moments that were my favorite part of Divine Rivals but they were woven in to provide breathing room between the intense action which I appreciated. I liked how the magic of this world was explained (this was a big question I had after the first book) and the role of the gods.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was chaotic and intense at times but the pacing was good and it had a satisfying conclusion to the story.

I loved this book like I loved Divine Rivals. There is definitely some heartbreak but the ending had hope as well. Ross’ prose is beautiful and really sucks you in to the story. I liked how I didn’t really know where the story was going so I had a reason to keep reading. The middle meandered a little bit in this sense because the next step in the plot was uncertain, but I loved dwelling with the characters and rooting for them. It was a good end to this duology.

Rebecca Ross hit it out of the park again with this sequel! I absolutely loved this book, and she did an incredible job at continuing the story and elevating it even more. I loved being able to read more about Iris and Roman’s story, as well as getting to learn more about the war between the gods, and the character development of Dacre and Enva.

I enjoyed the different perspectives we got in this book, as we got more insight into the world of Dacre and quite possibly what poor Forest had to go through when he went through a similar fate as Roman. I definitely hated Dacre so much hahaha, and at points I did find myself gravitating more towards Iris’ side of the story because I was just so sad that Roman was stuck in this terrible setting.

I did love the character development of the gods and getting to learn more about the history between Dacre and Enva.
It was kind of amazing to see how much power that Enva truly held over Dacre in the end.

I also loved that one chapter we got the POV of multiple side characters. That was a super interesting and enlightening part of the novel to include, and a different insight that we had never received before.

In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading Iris and Roman’s story, and I truly do not think there was much more Ross could have delivered in this duology. It had love, grief, enemies-to-lovers, tense moments, war, letters, magic, creatures, and so much more. This has definitely become one of my top duologies! I rate this book 5/5 stars! 🌟

So I’ve had to add a new series to my all time faves.

Spoilers for both books below.

First of all, chapter 49? I balled my eyes out at that! And quite a few other times during this series as well.

Because there really isn’t another series like this. The magic is so subtle, and yet so beautiful. I love how real it all feels, the world, the characters etc., but also the small details.
Roman’s house leaving out milk for him when he was younger and the small magic things like that. It is simply just beautiful.

Which leads me to Dacre’s downfall. The fact that he was defeated by music was so beautiful! Yes Iris cut his head off after and that, but the music and the lack of it was such and important, although easily overlooked, part of this story and it was just written beautifully!

Which brings me to the characters. I love how well rounded and human they are. Even a minor character like Mr. Attwood, whose house is always open to people, or Lucy, who is stern but cares deeply for people around her. I love how Iris and Roman’s love story plays out, and how Roman after book one KNEW something was missing.
I loved how Iris and Attie’s relationships developed, as well as the other relationships in there. Attie and Tobias, as well as Iris and Tobias. Marisol’s character and just everything.

Furthermore the writing style is simply beautiful. The details and descriptions are immersive, and the dialogue everything from witty to beautiful, and I look forward to delving deeper into Ross’ work.

This series is a booktok series, which always leaves me a bit vary, especially because the writing style can have different quality (most an entertaining, but can lack in the writing), but this is also top-tier in writing!

Overall, I have a new favorite series, and this book is one of the easiet 5/5 I’ve given in a while.

This last book was so good! The character began to feel like I knew them personally I was really connected to them. The politics was obviously incredible I love finding things out about the gods. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star is because of the amount of romance. By the end everyone was in a relationship and that just didn't interest me.

Another rollercoaster of emotions. I was expecting a swoon-worthy romance between Iris and Roman, but instead, I got a whole lot of drama with Darce, the worst god ever. Seriously, this guy is a complete a**hole. He locked up his wife Enva and treated her like a toy, then he erased Roman’s memories and tried to keep him away from Iris. Dude, that’s not cool. That’s not how you treat your mate. You need to respect them and let them be free. Otherwise, they’ll run away from you faster than you can say ‘bye, Felicia’. And what’s up with his so-called healing powers? More like mind-control powers.😮‍💨 He’s the god of healing, but he’s hurting everyone around him. SMH.

But let’s talk about the real stars of this book: Iris and Roman. These two are so adorable and perfect for each other👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏻. They have amazing chemistry and banter, and they never give up on each other. Even when Darce messed with Roman’s memories, they still found a way to communicate through magical letters. How cute is that?

 ‘Through love, all is possible.’

BTW, that quote is from Crescent City, one of the best books ever. Just saying.😉

Their love was stronger than Darce’s power, and they proved it in the end. I was so happy when they finally got their happily ever after. They deserved it after all the crap they went through.

I won’t lie, there were times when I wanted to throw this book across the room. But since I was reading it on my Kindle, I just switched to a rom-com instead. This book was too angsty for me. Like, 90% of the time, Iris and Roman were apart and suffering. It was too much. It made me cry and reminded me of my own loss. I wish they had found a cure for Roman’s condition because he suffered so much in this book. It was not fair. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars was because of Iris and Roman. The rest of the plot can go to hell, along with Darce.

This is a worthy sequel to the first book. I love this universe's magic system and I love how this book expanded on it.
I'm not the biggest fan of memory loss as plot device and yet I love how it was used here.
I love that the author write's death and with the weight death has and
when a character has to kill, it affects them accordingly.
I love how the author didn't overlook the effects of war, although this book is technically YA,
the main group doesn't end unscathed, the problem doesn't disappear as soon as the leader is defeated, paramilitary groups are shown to be as dangerous as they can be and the scene discussing how killing people from another army without trial after the war is over is a war crime was essential.
. I love this book so much. A few, very few, moments missed a bit of the magic of the first book but I still feel like this was really good. I can't picture a better ending for this series. I'm glad to say this has been fantastic from beginning to end.

I cried and it was LOVELY! I loved the magic and the relationships explored with family (found and blood), morality, religion and a higher power, and the ethics of war. For a duology that is marketed as a romance, these book—this one especially—holds so, so much more.

For a book with this many dense topics and themes, it is an incredibly easy and fast paced read. Every character is precious and I would protect WITH MY LIFE! (Attie and Tibias have my whole heart!) And the way in which the main couple fell so believable in their love and devotion is miraculous, somehow never coming across as over-the-top or cheesy.

This has entered my top reads of the year so far for sure!
