Charlie and Nate are great friends, even though one is captain of the basketball team and one is president of the robotics club. When it's decided that the class president will be able to direct class funds to buy new cheer uniforms or fund a trip to the National Robotics competition, both end up running for class president. The election gets dirty as cheerleaders bully nerds and embarrassing pictures are unearthed and posted at school. Eventually, the two groups must work together to win a prize at a robot wars meet since the prize money could fund both groups.

Nothing heavy here, just a light high school read, although one of the characters is dealing with his parents' divorce.

Love Faith Erin Hicks' art, did not care for the story.

it was pretty cute but i do wish that joanna and holly got together and nate and charlie got together instead, like be brave and make everyone gay

This book is AWESOME!!! Unlikely friends Nate and Charlie are pretty much total opposites personality-wise, but are best friends and neighbors. When Nate schemes to be student body president so he can allocate funds to the robotics team for the national championship, the cheerleaders (who want the funds for new uniforms) arrange an entire campaign for Charlie to run against him on the jock ticket (he's head of the basketball team). Each side takes turn embarrassing the other and then the principal steps in and declares that neither team will receive the money.

In a fun twist of events the science geeks, the cheerleaders, and Charlie team up to monsterize the robotics team's robot to send it to a robot rumble in hopes of winning $10,000 so that both teams can get what they want. The group of teens heads down to the rumble on Thanksgiving Day and cheer the robot on as it performs really well against some stiff competition, including last year's winning team.

Meanwhile, amidst all the scheming and dreaming, Charlie is dealing with the after-effects of his parents' divorce. His mother is living on the West Coast (Charlie lives on the East Coast), his father is often away on business, and his mother is moving on with a new man in her life who she wants to bring to visit for Thanksgiving.

The artwork is in black and white and blew me away. The action sequences were very well done. There's some great play by play panels of Charlie playing basketball that featured good pacing and really put reader's in the action.

Funny, realistic, believable characters, fresh plots, this book is a great read! I highly recommend this title for teens and up.

An entertaining school story of kids from disparate social groups thrown together. The robotics Club and the cheerleaders are scrapping over the same school funds that will help get them to their respective championships and nice guy/clique straddler Charlie finds himself caught in the crossfire.

Granted, we are dealing with some familiar territory here and the characters, while likeable, fall into fairly predictable categories: the mean girl cheerleader, the Freddie Prize Jr.-esque jock with a secret soft side, the unapologetic misunderstood genius whose brilliance doesn't extend into people skills...but it's a fun read nonetheless and Hicks' art as usual, breathes a lot of life and heart into the characters. I don't know if Shen would appreciate the comparison, though I mean this in a good way...it has the feel of Glee in its early giddy, days, when it was the guilty pleasure du jour and most days the worst our loveable losers had to face was a dramatic slushie-ing in the main hallway.

Quick, cute, and should be a movie. Team Awesome rocks!

This was very well drawn and may I say cute. The story did seem rushed but overall it was a good story and had a happy ending. I’m not use to happy endings in the books I’ve read.
