This book was a little on the boring side. There wasn't anything that really drew me in and the story was pretty much cookie cutter bullying. I didn't really identify with any of the characters and I was about half way in when I realized that nothing was going to happen and this was almost a PSA on bullying.

It did make me think about my experiences with the issue, but aside from that, there wasn't much meat to the book at all. At times it felt more like YA with a preachy message.

LAST SUMMER Holly Chamberlin
This is a story about bullying and it's everywhere these days. The grandmother bus monitor in NY was bullied and when others found out, via YouTube, people around the world donated money for her and her cause to stop bullying.
Rosie and her family, mom and dad live next door to Meg and her younger brother and parents.
Rosie and Meg are lifetime friends but Meg to fit in socially at school told another female Rosie's secret and then everybody in school knew and everybody shunned her.
Things get really bad til her parents find out then the parents are no longer friends with each other-the female heads of the families are also lifetime friends.
Medical issues arise and many secrets. Love the part about diaries and journals and the 'talking doctor' Rosie goes to.
The girls try to work their way around things to get back to what they once had.
When the community suffers again from another bullying attack they arise to meet and start a club that they hope will help others.
I liked the book and what it stands for.
Some kids today I find so mean to others their age and that they have no respect of older people. Hope things can change for them, make it a more peaceful world we can live in.
At time I found it very difficult to continue reading this book as the hurt was put there by just others words. Glad I did get to the end, i Looked forward to it ending in what I hoped would not be death.
Super loved reading about the different locations in Portland Maine. we do travel there at least once a year.

Very predictable and I found Jane to be an extremely uninteresting character.

I've read other books by Holly Chamberlin and was looking forward to this novel but was sadly disappointed. This follows Rosie whom is betrayed by her best friend Meg to the bullies that torment her and things go from bad to worse and end result is Rosie withdrawing from school. The side story is their mothers whom also are at odds after the betrayal.

As with other reviewers, there are a lot of secrets I could understand this kind of hurt and reaction from but the secret that Meg tells the bullies really was NOT that big of a deal. I get that it is but NOT to the extent that Rosie takes it to. I honestly kept expecting it to actually be something else and that was just the beginning but I was wrong. I also expected the cutting story to be further fleshed out, there isn't really a follow up to how her parents found out. There also isn't ever really a story about when/how it all came to a head to get to the point where Rosie dropped out of school.

Bullying is no joke and what happened to Rosie is terrible. My skin crawled when the girls cornered her and cut her hair but I think that it was a bit unrealistic and I wish that things were thought out a bit more.

This book was difficult to get through. It was really slow an honestly it was kind of boring. I thought it would be better. Don't waste your time reading this book unless you have a lot of time to do so. It's not worth it.

I really enjoyed this book. My one complaint is how imature Rosie's thinking sounded especially in the beginning. Sounded too childish for a 14 year old.

Kinda preachy...but my name is Megan and my best friend's name is Rosie, so I had to read it. Honestly there were some parallels between the book characters and my friend and me, so that was cool. (Not the bad stuff, just stuff they talked about.) I didn't think Meg's reason for betrayal was relatable or realistic, but I do understand why Rosie was so hurt by Meg's actions considering her whole life was centered around Meg. Both parties were at fault, from Meg's betrayal to Rosie's inability and refusal to stand up for herself. (Note that I'm not saying she deserved to be treated badly, but she clearly needed a backbone. Thankfully at the end of the story she seemed to acquire one and a life.)
The four person narrative I actually liked, but Rosie's mother annoyed me. I don't know why but her personality got on my nerves.
Overall a two to three star book. I wouldn't read it again.
