I did like this book, but it took me a while to get past the fact that this was not the book I was expecting. It's much less "epic sci-fi adventure about a family who travels through time" and more "character-centric drama about intergenerational trauma while 1 character time travels". It was fairly slow paced. The ending was a tad too happily ever after for me, but I wasn't mad about it since I did really grow to love the characters and wanted them to be happy in the end.

I think I would have liked this more if my expectations weren't set for a different genre......

I really liked this book - it was well written and the story was interesting - but I had a hard time buying into the 11th hour revelation about it being a time loop and the solution being Anna speaking to her mom. It was certainly a theme running through the novel, but it felt a little more subterranean than anything else, and so the fact of it being THE thing that would break them out of the time loop strained credulity a little for me. It was a neat way to wrap up the novel, but felt like a bit of a reach for me.

At the halfway point and I'm having a hard time picking this back up. The book just yada yada's the science of the time travel, which would be fine if the characters and story were very compelling. But the pace is slow and there's a lot of telling me how the characters feel rather than putting me in their headspace so that I can intuit their emotions. I'm just not as invested as I'd need to be to read another 200 pgs
