What an amazing first book to the entire series.

I read these when I was younger, and while I loved them I don't think I had a full appreciation for them like I do now. There is such a gentle yet powerful femininity with Talia I just adore, and I think much to be said about how emotions, and healing are portrayed throughout the book.

Harry Potter, but less problematic, albeit with some PG-13 content, made a decade earlier.

my 2nd favorite book I read this year.

Finished. Loved it. Excited to know that there's like 33 more of this.

Probably my biggest complaint of this book is the way time passes. Months go by with a few words. This just over 300 page book occurs over the span of 3.5 years. The characters mature well throughout this time, but reading it and suddenly thinking, “wait, how much time has passed?” wasn’t the most enjoyable.
Also can’t believe the Bury Your Gays trope existed in 1987 smh

So, this year, I decided to dive into more fantasy written by women and stumbled upon Mercedes Lackey. Picked up "Arrows of the Queen" without knowing a thing about it, just following a reading order I found. And guess what? Magic talking horses were a thing.

I almost DNF'd right then, but I stuck with it, and I'm so glad I did. Turns out, it's a pretty good read. A tad whimsical, a lot interesting, and refreshingly different. I'm just happy I gave it a shot. It's always so great to come across a book like that. No information, no one is talking about and it's good.
