Beautiful art and colours. Story is less engaging, feels like its never really moving towards the payoff - this volume was a bit of a detour. I've not read the next but it seems like one or two scenes aside we probably could have skipped stright there, in terms of the main narrative and themes.

Well, I did enjoy this more than the first book in the series. It may be that the characters are growing on me. It does work that the two leads are interacting more, in spite of what I said in the first volume review, about keeping their stories separate. I think I enjoyed more the dilemma the cast found themselves grappling with, and the pirate captain was a great antagonist.
The overall themes of consumerism and religious devotion felt shuffled to the sidelines, and it seems the characters have yet to face the consequences from their previous actions, so there will be a what to wrap up in what will be the third and final volume.
Final note, I would have liked a intro page recapping the characters and even spaceships for referring back to, and map of the solar system would have been good to.

Vol 2, stuck as hostages and trying to escape, also dealing with romantic feelings.

I'm still not loving this art style - the characters are so hyper-stylized that it feels like their features are constantly changing, and sometimes things are deliberately drawn with very little detail, which I just find annoying. The plot is fairly unremarkable, there's too many characters going on to get too invested in any of them and the character dynamics they're building are happening to fast for me to get invested, and the cool space nun thing that I was really excited about is basically backstory at this point. But for some reason I want to keep reading. I don't know what it is about this book - maybe the vivid colors and cool space settings, maybe learning about the weirdness of alien biology, maybe I am somewhat getting invested in whatever's going on between Grix and Vess. But either way, it was a fast and enjoyable read and I'm definitely going to read the third volume.

3.5. This is still quite strange and I don't really understand the world, yet I'll probably keep reading the series.

I waited for this book for so long that I don't remember volume 1 in the slightest. And then I read my review after reading this, and well I guess I didn't miss much. The art is cool, the characters are cool. But the plot is confused. There may be a story here. I want there to be a story. I want this book to be less cool and more good. And yet I'd still read volume 3.
