Another book suggested to me for pain management. It was okay, though very scary in some parts! I had to take a break for two nights and cleanse my palate with a free romance novel on kindle unlimited to remind myself that my body is not (likely) in the process of developing three different cancers and a degenerative brain disease.

I'm not sure what I think of this book. It's very clear on what you're supposed to eat and shouldn't eat, and the author clearly explains why. I'm just not convinced, which has to do with two things: you're allowed to eat meat and reintroduce dairy, at no point does he mention that meat can cause digestive problems and inflammation, even though he does mention FODMAPs. And if dairy isn't the most unnatural thing to eat for a grown-up, then I don't know what is.

The other reason is his tone of voice, like he's not informing you but telling you what to do. Telling you you shouldn't have gluten, and that even the tiniest bit can make you sick, and at the same time telling you you're bound to fail keeping it out of your diet because a lot of products are contaminated. So you're going to die anyway and you get to feel really bad about it. It doesn't exactly make you feel empowered, hopeful and motivated.

This book was extremely eye-opening in regards to my health and the way that diet has contributed to my autoimmune disease. The scientific data really helped to show that these aren't just the author's ideas. Our whole family is going to try his transition protocol in hopes of one of my kids and I helping to heal our autoimmune responses. This book is drastically different from what I normally read, but I'm very grateful that the author has taken the time to share his research and findings (and recipes!).

Fantastic read! Insightful, simple, full of case studies and statistics which have opened my eyes to a world wide epidemic that's been harvesting for years...but this book shows we can ALL do something about it! Highly recommend!

4.5 stars // this book really helped confirm some things for me and clarify others. Super informative and while I already follow a diet well suited for those with autoimmune issues, I learned how to fine tune it according to my symptoms. This book (along with Medical Medium) has helped to greatly improve my well-being! Highly recommend this book!

My mom got this book and loaned it to me since we both have celiac and are concerned with the clustering of autoimmune diseases that seem to come with it.

This book though. This book is not helpful. He talks about large foreheads meaning you have celiac and says that rice has gluten in it.

RICE DOES NOT HAVE GLUTEN.

Look, I can't eat rice because of inflammation issues (it makes my feet swell and hurt to the point I have trouble walking) and my mom has been tested as allergic to it, so yes, these two celiacs avoid rice. BUT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HAVING CELIAC DISEASE. BECAUSE RICE DOES NOT CONTAIN GLUTEN.

This guy is talking about his experience with treating celiac and NCGS and yet he says rice has gluten?!? The mind boggles. Seriously, I was flipping through the book to see if this would be useful since my "place on the autoimmune spectrum" is "HAS AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE" and had come to the conclusion that no, it wasn't going to be that helpful to me (I pretty much follow AIP) and then I came across the "rice has gluten" beauty and just about threw the book at the wall.

Don't read this book. Seriously. Unless you want to be diagnosed as celiac because of your large forehead and have to avoid rice forever. Ugh.
