Mi spiace di aver dato 3 stelle e non togliermi la soddisfazione delle 4. Vorrei tanto che Goodreads mettesse i mezzi voti!
Il finale, e ciò era quasi prevedibile data la lunghezza breve del libro, è stato a mio parere un po’ troppo veloce. Dico prevedibile anche per il genere, il thriller/giallo, che spesso fa nascere una così grande curiosità perfino nell’autore che lo sta scrivendo che quest’ultimo affretta le cose concludendo. Non si è capito particolarmente bene l’esito del protagonista e di Kristìn, la sua ragazza, con cui tutto è iniziato e sembra piuttosto strano che rimanga un interrogativo e che Ugla, coinvolta in questo triangolo amoroso, non abbia ugualmente avuto nemmeno un accenno a cosa avrebbe fatto con la sua vita giovanile da prendere in mano, data anche l’eredità di Hrólfur. Nìna, allo stesso modo, ha passato una vita di molestie e abusi e poteva avere la sua rinascita dopo la risoluzione del caso che invece non abbiamo visto.
Ho apprezzato la fine “statica” di Karl e Linda: amara, senza nessuna giustizia sacra a prevalere specie su di lui e tutti i misfatti compiuti che rimangono ormai celati sotto la neve, un po’ come tante cose che accadono alla cittadina.
Le descrizioni del bianco paesaggio sono brevi quando efficaci, e il titolo e la prima vicenda sembra quasi metaforico, insieme all’intersecarsi di eventi nel passato avvenuti però in un’altra terra fredda, la Danimarca. La piccola cittadina di ambientazione di questo libro, forse, è più coinvolta nella vita di quanto non sembri quando le valanghe portano aria di silenzio e morte.
E per il mio progetto di scrittura, è tutto particolarmente suggestivo e di nota!

Solid start to a mystery series. There was a bit of a learning curve at first as I struggled to keep all the characters straight. However I liked the atmospheric setting in a small town in northern Iceland where everyone knows everyone else. Having the main narrator, Ari Thor, be a newcomer to the town was helpful since he also has a lot to learn about the town residents. This isn’t a very scary or dark story, but not a cozy mystery either. Somewhat between the two. A great wintry read!

Adequate beach read -- the setting was unique (Iceland), the plot moved along, and the writing was fine, nothing spectacular.
Ari Thor is a young whippersnapper of a detective taking a police position in the sleepy northern Icelandic town of Siglufjördur. Leaving behind everything he holds dear, including his girlfriend, Ari buys into the notion that "nothing ever happens here"...until it does. Not one, but two deaths occur, leaving the quaint village's residents shocked and suspicious if there is a murderer in their midsts.
Nordic noir is quickly becoming one of my favorite winter genres. I love the dark, snowy atmosphere of Scandinavian villages where the blizzards become a character of their own. With that, Snowblind did not disappoint! I love Ari Thor and am so excited to see where the next few books take him in his relationship with Kristen, his relationship with Ugla, and with the rest of the residents of Siglufjördur!

This was plotted very nicely, some of the reveals were quite predictable but I liked the way the different threads came together at the end. The author introduced quite a lot of different POVs, not all of which were resolved at the end which was a bit annoying. It did add to the layering of the story, but it didn't really feel like we got to know any one character very well.
