I’m trying to figure out my rating. 4 maybe a 5. I really enjoyed these two, and their little story.

In a world where "toxic masculinity" is in everyday vernacular, I feel like books with male love interests like Rafe MacKade don't really fit anymore. I would have probably liked this more even like, 10 years ago, but reading it now... it feels flat and wrong. Rafe frankly sounds like a dick and not someone worth pursuing, even there is a soft spot underneath.

Rafe MacKade leaves his beloved hometown after the death of his mother. Feeling isolated and lost like the haunted Barlow place that sits abandoned after the war of Antietam, he decides his place is not in Maryland. After ten years, he returns home to his brothers and buys the Barlow place. As he starts to fix it up, he hears the ghosts of the house and knows that it needs people. The history of the Barlows and the MacKades goes back to the murder and death of soldiers who line the property. I was intrigued by the historical aspect of the story. Rafe meets Regan, a woman who opened an antique store a few years ago. Rafe hires her to help return the Barlow place to its original state and her antiques are required. As much as she doesn't want to fall for the ladies man Rafe, she seems to fail every time he's around. A fast and delightful read and I loved the intertwining storylines of the MacKade brothers and what is to come in the next few books.

DNF because I couldn’t stand the character of Rafe. Definitely not my style of book. It felt like an insult to my intelligence to keep reading this.

I’ve read before and this was a quick light read. It’s sweet but also familiar. Nothing special in my mind but I will for sure finish the series

Good

I liked the fire between the two, the heat and how desperately in love he became in the end, it was so cute especially the stuttering . interested in the other brothers romance now too.
