This was The Breakfast Club meets [b:Life As We Knew It|213753|Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1)|Susan Beth Pfeffer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328012816s/213753.jpg|206925] — a comet is approaching and there's the possibility of apocalypse, but it brings these high school teens together!

I found the romance to be muddled, the apocalypse to be unclear (wasn't there only a 50% chance of destruction? I mean that's a lot but why does society crumble so easily?), and I just wanted more. Oh and for a YA there was a lot of sex. Nothing graphic, but a lot of people are sleeping with each other.

And then the ending was very unsatisfying.
SpoilerNot to give it away... but nothing happened. It just ends.
But overall, a book with a great concept, well-developed characters, and a compelling story.

reread, bei undine!!!

From the start, I was drawn in by the characters. I wanted to get to know them and see what something terrible, something like the apocalypse, would do to them. The story begins before the meteor was discovered, then the tension begins to build. The reader is allowed to see what the characters were like before, then watch as they are transformed by the ticking time bomb in the sky. By switching POV between the characters, we are given parts of the story at a time rather than spoon fed everything. It was a good read and the ending was exactly as it should be.

This one was interesting. I waffled between 3 and 4 stars. I liked it, and it definitely kept my interest, but it didn't capture me quite like I wanted, and there were a few plot decisions that I didn't love. I definitely think my teenagers would love it, though, and I'll recommend it to them for sure.

I would liken this book to trashy TV. I wanted to keep reading, but there were many parts where I just cringed. At times, I felt like I was having a conversation with my grandpa, where he’s trying to say cool things, but it just feels wrong and uncomfortable. At other parts, I felt like the author was trying really hard to prove he was up with the times, but he ended up sounding sexist. I was really bugged when he tried to explain how the girls felt as if he had some authority over it and would end up making them seem one dimensional.

Another thing I hated... Whenever the girls talk to each other, it’s always about boys. When the boys talk to each other, it’s more often about actual things.

4.5/5

It was okay; nothing particularly special.
dark emotional reflective medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: N/A
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

an asteroid is going to hit the earth in two months and the odds of survival are slim, what do we do with our last days on earth?

be basic.

idk, i read this when i was younger and i remember being GAGGED but i read it now and it just lacked the oomph factor for me. i think the ideas about what drives us to continue in life were interesting but ultimately not as compelling for me; i read so i could be DONE rather than see how the stories progressed.

also the author wrote women a tad weird (sexualizing)

My Heart.

This book was so good. So captivating and interesting to read.
