This book was just dull. It had so much promise and an amazing premise, however it fell flat.
I think the biggest mistake the author made was not developing the characters. The middle of the book would’ve felt much less meaningless if I had cared about the characters. Even after finishing the book I still know so little about any of them.
The middle was boring as all hell. I think the relationships between the characters were unearned and every fight that broke out was lazy.
Also, just a general pet peeve of mine, especially for a split pov book, their names were too similar. I found Andy, Anita, and Eliza getting mixed around in my head because their names were so similar.
I know it sounds like I hated this book but I really didn’t. I thought it was boring, not awful. I personally wouldn’t suggest this book to someone but I did enjoy bits and pieces. The beginning was really promising. Plus, Eliza’s commentary in the last chapter was so well done and a really solid ending.
Do I suggest reading this book, no. You should read I Hope You Get This Message instead. But it was not a bad book, just a boring one.
2.2/5 stars

I know the end is probably fitting for this book, but it really irritated me and has me taking away at least one star. I'm generally a reader who likes a conclusive ending, not this up-in-the air maybe/maybe-not situation that just isn't satisfying after nearly 400 pages.
That said, the story was engaging, the characters nicely developed and the language realistic for teenagers, without being overly "hip" or falsely youthful, which can be the case with YA. The interactions and the way the relationships develop was interesting and, given the circumstances, believable. I also liked that it was told from different viewpoints and even though the characters ultimately weren't terribly memorable, they were multi-dimensional and engaging. Wallach is a good writer and I can easily believe he is a songwriter, too, because a lit of his lines have a lyrical quality and his imagery can be quite poetic.
I know I already griped about the ending, but something happens to one of the characters, I won't say what or who not to spoil it, but it really bothered me and felt unnecessary, even if Wallach was using it to illustrate a greater point (maybe he wasn't and I'm reading too much into it...)
Aaanyway, though I think Wallach was trying to convey a message of hope and maybe even faith, that was not what I came away with; and while I wasn't invested enough to be really upset by the way the story ended, it made me feel generally less satisfied with the story as a whole. I don't really like apocalyptic novels, so I guess this one hasn't converted me to a fan. Looking forward to a nice, harmless chick-lit novel now:-)

This book is incredible!!! Totally recommend but don’t look at the last page to check the page number it will give away the impact of the ending
DNF. Characters unrelatable. Plot is put together greatly but executed poorly.
Good book! Taylor gave it to me and I finally got around to it. I wish there was a second book though. It ended on a huge cliff hanger!
As I was reading this, the film Melancholia came to mind. Then, I learned it was the inspiration for this book. I like that idea because I loved the film.
This book is about living in the moment, whether something is going to happen or not. I think it's also about not judging someone--you never know what might be going on in that person's life.
I was hoping the story would be a bit more apocalyptic, but I enjoyed it.
Live for today, live in this moment--only this moment is life.
