So, I really enjoyed this book. Generally, I watch sci-fi movies, but stick with UF/fantasy books. For some reason, I just knew I was going to like this one. If all sci-fi was presented in such a way, I may read more of it.

Pirates. Space-smuggling pirates. Not only with telepathic abilities. Oh, no...a plethora of different abilities. Ranging from teleportation to speaking with a ship's computer, depending on who your parents are, of course. That's just the setup.

The characters all have personalities that are at least a little linked to their abilities (or lack thereof). Everyone's unique and has their own motives for being the way they are and it's very clear from the get-go. On top of that, there's a century-old power-struggle between a clandestine organization within the government and the pirates who split off from those same people.

Oh, and a pirate queen with a capital "Q." Yeah, I can't wait for the next book to come out!

I went into this book expecting just another space romance. I mean look at that title and the subtitle! However, I was blown away by the worldbuilding and character development. There are so many secondary characters who are as full of life as Mercy and Reaper.
What I long for in science fiction romance is not just relationships IN SPACE but explorations of how future circumstances will change families and how societies react. Likewise, what I want in romantic SF is to see how abilities (for example) change personal relationships. To have a perception skill that makes one a deadly killer AND a good lover was very interesting.
It is so rare for me to have both my sci fi loving and romance loving sides met in one book. Thank you Carysa Locke!

This was fun! I'm really interested in the store and how the romance would progress. It was super sci-fi heavy--which I was expecting, but it made the audiobook a little difficult for me. I think I might have enjoyed this one even more if I had physically read it. The narrator was pretty good too and I'd probably listen to other books read by her.

This is a slow-burn, "build as the series goes" romance. I wasn't completely sold on the one romance we have though. Why?

Most of this book takes place within the span of one day!! Right?! Unless I missed a ton of days because I was listening, but... wow. It isn't a slow-burn if we're falling in love within AT MOST 3 days. It just doesn't work...

Timeline aside, I enjoyed this book and I do want to read more.

Fun book! I like a main female character that isn’t an idiot or a wilting wall flower. All of the other characters were also interesting, each in their own way, without distracting from the story. I also like a romance that’s treated like two adults entering into something voluntarily and realistically.

The pace was good, it didn’t lag or get boring.

I’ll admit that when I saw “telepathic space pirates” I assumed I was getting into a cheesy, bodice ripping, embarrassing to be caught reading romance novel....WRONG. I started reading it so I could laugh and make fun of it with my friends and maybe a snide review or two....also WRONG.

I’m impressed and plan to read more from this pair of authors. I’m not going to jump right into the next one, though, because I found I really like the characters and I don’t want to see anything bad happen to them. I know, it’s stupid.

So awesome to read this book! I connected with the author way back in the old days of Livejournal and beta read the original draft of this story. Back then, I knew that it contained stellar writing and a creative story with fantastic worldbuilding. I'd always wondered what happened to it, and then, fast forward almost five years, and Carysa has published the book!

So happy to see this on the virtual shelves. It was excellent. I love the pirate culture, the explanation for the way the universe is, and the men in the book are all intriguing. There's room for tons of side stories and lots of adventure. Can't wait to read the next one!

I was expecting something deliciously cheesy when I first picked this up. Instead, I got a really intriguing world, a sweet romance, and a solidly entertaining and character-driven sci-fi story.
