I don't know why, but Rainbow Rowell makes me cry with love for her characters and their stories. I keep thinking: I'm reading a romance! Happy things are happening! Why are you crying?!
And the reasons are:
1) It's set in 1999 and I realized I had to file this under historical fiction even though I would have been in my early 20's during this time (which is almost 20 years ago. Gross.);
2) I've said this before, but there's such an imperfection to her characters that's so relatable that you identify with their respective pain, and cheer for them
3) I wish I could write like her, but it would be scary to show that vulnerability (whether real or imagined)
4) Vulnerability makes me cry
5) Great writers make me cry
I read this book way past my bedtime 2 nights in a row and decided to finish 'er off earlier so I wasn't trying to breath through a stuffed nose while going to sleep. I couldn't put it down, not because it's a thriller, but it's such compelling writing. It's a compeller.

This was my favorite book of all the ones I have read by Rainbow Rowell. She has witty dialogue down and this book was a very sweet tale of "missed opportunities" for love. I could not put the book down because at times, I was smiling to myself.
Excuse me while I gush. I'm not entirely sure why I found this book so delightfully fantastic, but I did. It might have been timing, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to laze about in bed and read this book all day, which is a total slice of heaven even when the book does not leave me grinning ear to ear. However, I think it is likely the characters that I love. What I wouldn't give to have a Lincoln, a Beth or a Jennifer in my life. I totally have a new, odd, funny, cute book boyfriend. Lincoln was certainly quirky, but he was also a pretty refreshing male character. He was nerdy, he played Dungeons and Dragons, he likened bars to hell, he lived with him Mom, he was deliciously handsome and still super awkward. Frankly, I'm upgrading him to book husband. I must put a ring on that. I loved the relationship between Beth and Jennifer. They were good friends to each other, they were funny and real. The characters were fantastic and realistic, and made this book for me.
I really enjoyed the alternating looks into Beth and Jennifer's lives via their emails, and Lincoln's life. This book is a quick read and my attention never flagged, possibly, because the chapters were quite short and kept flipping to a different POV, which meant I simply had to keep reading to see what happened next. It was a delicious loop.
Anyway, I rarely give out 5 star ratings, but I really liked the characters in this book and it was such a fun, sweet read that I can't help myself. This author is absolutely on my to-read list.

Reading this book was such an adventure for me because Beth and Jennifer are almost exact carbon, or in this case paper, copies of myself and my best friend Amanda. Every other second there was a message as we read this book together while laughing and crying over the similarities that are eerily exact. I feel like my rating for this book is biased because of the strong connections it evoked and the experience it gave me, but it itself is incredibly humorous and well paced despite the constant shift between emails and the actual written story. It's very light hearted despite some tough themes and highly relatable. I promise it's not just Amanda and I getting nostalgic from it. It's a good book for reading between activities and renewing the vigor for reading when it was lost or claimed by the dreaded book slump. It's not too serious to be read continuously without losing anything important but also intriguing and entertaining enough to keep you coming back for more.
Ez a könyvecske nem volt akkora hatással rám, mint a másik két regénye az írónőnek. Ennek ellenére a maga módján tetszett.

If you like a love story that involves a stalker of sorts then this is the book for you. I enjoyed the humour in this book and the first person but feels like third person. I recommend this book if you are looking for a light read or cozy romance style book.

A palate cleanser of a book to read after “The Book of M”, it was so slight as to almost float away. It needs to be read quickly without looking too closely as the male lead is very stalker-y. A breezy read that will disappear just as quickly.
I'm in tears!
But good tears.
The tears you cry when you are just so happy!
When I first started this book, I was pretty skeptical. It kinda bored me and definitely creeped me out. A guy who is almost 30, still living with his mom, is given a job to read your emails? Yeah, creepy.
But I kept going. I had faith in Rainbow Rowell's writing! And this book did not disappoint. It had the cutesy parts that made me squeal (like in Fangirl), and it had the parts that tugged on your heart-strings (like in Eleanor and Park). It was the perfect meet in the middle book. I'm thinking (maybe...possibly...) this might by my favorite Rainbow Rowell book (I still have yet to read Landline so those ranks aren't finalized until I've read that too).
The characters:
1. Lincoln (first off, love the name cause it reminds me of my nephew), is a shy but sweet computer nerd. He is at a stand-still in life. He wakes up, goes to work, goes home, goes to sleep. And repeats that everyday. He's just there. Not really living, but alive. He's content with that. But deep down, he knows there's something missing in his life.
I loved the journey that Lincoln goes on to discover himself. Its something that I've watched people go through before. Being in university, it's something I'm kinda going through too. So it was very relatable but at the same time it wasn't because everyone goes through that journey in their own special way.
2. Beth is a quirky movie reviewer for a newspaper. She drinks lots of coffee, has loads of movie knowledge (obviously), is very supportive of her best friend, and has a beautiful musician boyfriend.
I loved Beth! She is can be both shy and confident. She's awkward but so adorable. I want to be her best friend!
3. Jennifer is a timid but cute copy editor for the newspaper. She has a husband who adores her, wants her best friend to find a happy ending, and is very scared of getting pregnant.
Jennifer, like Beth, is awkward but also adorable. I would also love to be her best friend. I will just join Beth and Jennifer's little group. Their friendship is amazing and very realistic. A lot of the time, the emails between those two would remind me of conversations between my best friend and I. They had the "this is probably really creepy/weird and anyone else would totally judge me for it but I'm telling you cause I know you won't judge me" type of friendship. Which also includes "i don't like this but I'm supporting you cause you're my best friend" and "yeah it definitely is your fault but I'm still going to help you come up with someone else you can blame."
What I think made this book truly beautiful is the fact that Lincoln wasn't the only character who went through a self-discovering journey. It seemed like almost every character I met was/would/did go through a self-discovering journey.
Also there's the underlying message that there is always someone out there for everyone. Your Prince Charming/Princess will come along. Don't lose faith!
Absolutely loved this book! Can't stop rereading the ending. It will definitely be going on my favorite shelf. And I will be recommending it to anyone that I can!
