This is book 2 in the playbook series . A familair character from book one TK Moore, Denver mustang’s wide receiver finds a visitor from his past . His highschool girlfriend -Poppy . Once they reconnect Poppy shares how they have a 9 yr old son TK didn’t know about ! TK and poppy take time to see what this means for their future and their families future . Poppy learns all about being a Mustang player girlfriend and we hear from characters from the first book throughout this new life Poppy is entering . For me I wanted to keep reading this book but everything went so perfectly it was a little predictable . Overall still enjoyed
Will it change your life? No. Is it fun? Sure. There’s some problematic actions by both parties
Things I like about Alexa Martin romance novels:
1. They take place in a recognizable Denver
2. They have diverse characters and teach me a lot about black women's hair
3. They are detailed and realistic about football
Things I find challenging to like about Alexa Martin's romance novels:
1. Completely unrealistic male characters (way too perfect, way too supportive, way too quick to change, etc)
2. Unexpectedly serious threats that are treated like minor plot points (um...a stalker who is basically an after thought??)
Overall the balance is such that I'll probably keep reading them but these novels definitely embrace the cliches of the genre.

Well, this dragged and was quite boring. I liked the kid, but fictional children are often great. Poppy was quite obnoxious and made strange choices and acted like the consequences were nothing. Obviously, this is fictional, but there really was no semblance of what someone would really do or how someone would actually act given the circumstances and experiences Poppy had.
There's something I just love about Martin's writing that keeps me coming back for more. After reading the other two books in this series I jumped at the chance at getting into this one. In Fumbled we meet single mother Poppy Paterson who is just trying to make it. Raising her sweet nine-year-old on her own while working as a waitress at a men's club, Poppy is a dedicated mom, living a noble life. Until one day, while minding her business at work, she runs into Denver Mustang star, T.K Moore, who also happens to be her high school sweetheart and her baby daddy. Suddenly all the emotions she thought she left behind have come raging back as she and TK begin to reconnect and she informs him that whoops, he's a dad!
I truly adore the second chance at love trope and this one gave me all the feels. I loved their love and the way they came back together with no huge fanfare. The only thing that I think truly irritated me as a reader is that Poppi had no real goals or purpose in her life other than being a good mother, which is great but I wanted to see her want more, do more, and not be satisfied with the bare minimum.
Other than that the writing was superb and the characters truly fit together in the most beautiful ways.

Alexa Martin's debut, Intercepted, was one of my top reads of 2018. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the follow up, Fumbled. I finally read it last week and it was everything I wanted and more.
Y'all know how much I love sports romance, right? Particularly football romance? The Playbook series has quickly become one of my favorite series and Alexa one of my go-to authors. I'm an avid football fan. (I think y'all know that, too.) I especially appreciate football romance when it's obvious the author knows the sport. It adds another level to the story and it's one I appreciate. But, I love all (or at least most) things football. There's a big difference between just making the hero an athlete and making the sport part of the story. What Alexa did was definitely the latter. While the second chance "secret" baby romance between Poppy and TK was fire, one of my favorite parts of the story was the honest look given at the safety of the game. Particularly with regards to CTE.
But, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself and I don't really want to spoil things for you. Just know you're going to get more than just romance with Fumbled. I mean, the romance is amazing, but there's so much more to this story. I loved Poppy and TK. They were both fantastic characters, even if I did spend some time side-eyeing TK for his reactions at times. Poppy was a bad ass, a fierce mom and a woman I'd love to call a friend. I was 100% Team Poppy. I loved her relationship with her and TK's son, Ace, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching TK get to know both of them. This whole book was addictive and I couldn't put it down once I started.
Fumbled was a fantastic follow up to Intercepted. It gave me the perfect combination of romance and reality, with plenty of swoons, laughs, sexy times and feels. I'm already anxiously awaiting the the third book, Blitzed. I can't wait for Maxwell and Brynn.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Favorite Quotes:
”I’m not yours and you can't fix me."
"Poppy, my eyes are up here."
"Yeah, but the rest of you is down here."
"I want our lives to become so intertwined we can't figure out where one starts and the other ends.”
I had the pleasure of reading Intercepted and Fumbled right after one another. I remember liking TK in Intercepted, so I was happy to go ahead and read his book.
I wasn't disappointed. Fumbled was just as entertaining and engaging as it's predecessor. Humor is definitely a hallmark of Martin's writing and is as sharp as ever in Fumbled. She also deftly addresses the safety issues players and their families face and how it affects the player and family members.
I appreciated how she handled those issues, she wasn't heavy-handed or preachy. Sprinkled within the seriousness, Martin gives us more of the player wives hilarious drama.
I truly enjoyed Fumbled and I cannot wait for more in the series!

"Fumbled" by Alexa Martin is a charming and I thought was also another fun novel. This book skillfully weaves together themes of love, family, and redemption. The relatable characters and engaging plot make it a must-read for fans of contemporary romance. An enjoyable and satisfying book that leaves a lasting impression.
Oh and if you’re a fan of football and know anything about Denver it’s an added bonus. Again, I thought this novel was cute and fun.

2.5 stars
Cute, but dragged in places, and didn't inspire me to read more.
