Another crossover book for Clark and Clark involving beloved characters Jack and Regan Reilly and Alvirah and Willy Meehan. As usual, there's a lot going on, much of it madcap. Regular readers should enjoy.
A group of employees in a small town have won the lottery. In an act of generosity, they decide to share the ticket with their coworker Duncan because, even though he didn't contribute, he picked their last number. And it turns out to be a wonderful thing because the owner of the store's new wife is a dud, yelling at long-time employees and even convincing the usually magnanimous store owner to give his employees pictures instead of the usual year-end bonuses. They can all quit in peace.
At the same time, Duncan is going over to his financial advisors' house because he's upset their advice has steered him so wrongly. While there, he overhears them discussing the fact that they bilked him out of $5,000. Upset, he hides but ends up breaking his leg which causes him not only to miss the news about the lottery, but to miss his girlfriend, Flower, as well.
And poor Flower, she overhears another plot and gets kidnapped... did I mention the madcap nature of this story?

For the month of December my book club selected this book and it's our second book in two years by Mary Higgins Clark. Needless to say that makes it my second time reading a book by her.
The story of a group of co-workers winning the lottery right before Christmas was quite cute. The author set them in a small town were everyone knows everyone and everyone's business was very picturesque in a small town way. I love the mystery element they brought in and how the characters slowly but not too slowly started to put the pieces together.
But when I tell you this is a light read I am not joking. In my opinion there are a few too many characters in this book for how light it is. It seemed like a few of them could have been left out and it would not have effected the storyline at all.
I am not a big readers of this series and I found it just ok as a stand alone. Their were a few mentions of things that happened in another book but overall you could get in and out of it without knowing all the back story.
The narrator and co-author Carol Higgins Clark did a good job of reading her work. I know that sounds strange but I am not a fan of authors reading their own work. Most of them don't act the part and just read the words. For me the better the acting in an audiobook the better the story.
Overall, this was a perfect holiday book and I am happy it was light-hearted.

A nice quick little mystery with a few twists and turns in the plot. Bad character development and description led to being quite unsure of who they characters were and how they fit in. End was a little underwhelming.

This was a lighthearted read. Quick, I don't know if I am going to be able to continue reading the collaborated books between mother and daughter. They are not bad, but there are other things I would like to read before picking up these now.

While I did enjoy the story, this was not a good book. I can't complain too much though. I wanted a fun, quick Christmas-themed read and that's exactly what it was.
