I’m really torn on this one. I would say until about 65% of the way through I was mostly enjoying the story. Eve was annoying at times whining that people were treating her like a child - while simultaneously acting like a child, but she also had moments where she was really mature. It was easy to get past that because I just reminded myself that she was 18 and that is par for the course. The relationship she develops with Kyle’s son Josh is pure and sweet and it was through those moments that you saw her maturity. Kyle tries to resist her flirting, knowing that it is wrong to lust after your brother’s best friend’s daughter. You could see the chemistry between them and I was definitely rooting for them. Without giving anything away, it just felt like at 70% of the way through this out of the blue issue came up and dominated the rest of the story, while it didn’t feel like the foundation for that was really set.

This is my first time reading Jewel E. Ann so I'm not sure if this is typical in her books but there was a LOT more religion that I was expecting or than I enjoy in a book. Obviously I knew as a preacher's daughter there would be some, and I have read so many with this trope that I have loved. This one just felt a little excessive on the religion topic but obviously that is my opinion only.
Overall I mostly enjoyed the book and I would definitely check out more of the authors work. The narrators did a great job with the story and kept me engaged even when the story itself was making me want to zone out a bit at times.
Thank you to Jewel E. Ann and Valentine PR for the ALC of this story!

The Apple Tree is the second book in the Sunday Morning series. It’s a standalone wholesome age gap, forbidden romance between a preacher's daughter and the new high school teacher in town. The story is told in dual pov and the audiobook is dual narrated by Willa Jaymes & Gregory Salinas. It follows the MCs Eve and Kyle. First off , I loved the name pun. A preacher's daughter named Eve, who lived up to the name was 👩🏾🍳💋.
A part of me hates that I enjoyed this book so much because it features the age gap which gives me the greatest ick. Eve is 18 and Kyle is 28. The ten years is a tolerable age gap, but I hate when books feature age gaps during that decade when you're still a teenager and transitioning into adulthood. So, kudos to the author for writing such a good book that had me turning the other cheek.😜
With that said, I truly enjoyed this book!
The storyline and plot were fast paced and entertaining. Eve is a spitfire and the wild child of the family. She must get that from her granny, whom I LOVED! Her grandma was a great secondary character and their relationship was sweet. I'm glad that Eve had her to confide in. I appreciated that Kyle tried to resist his attraction to Eve at first , but we all know that resisting an Eve is impossible.
Kyle was a great father and his son was another cute, secondary character that I enjoyed. By the end of the book, you could truly feel Kyle's love for Eve. This was beautiful because throughout the book, she always doubted herself and felt unworthy of it. She hid behind her emotions with humor and her numbing agent of choice. Hugs. I luved the banter, chemistry, and attention to detail. Two 👍🏾👍🏾

Spice-🌶️🌶️
Plot- 6/5
Trigger warnings- alcohol abuse
Tropes- single dad, set in the 80s, preachers daughter, age gap, forbidden love
I LOVED Eve so much and Kyle was so down bad for her. The age gap seems like such a big deal at her age but in life it’s not a big deal at all. Jewel writes these stories so well and you feel the characters emotions. The fact that each sister gets her OWN story and it’s such a profound story has me hooked on these books. The issues in each book are real and important to dive into. I love how these books are set in the 80s and I loved little Josh so much. The sisters show up for each other even when friends and family don’t. It shows you that you need to live life for yourself and no one else’s happiness.

Kyle just moved in next store and Eve's mom volunteered her to babysit. She was against the idea until she realized how attractive Kyle was. Eve asks Kyle to teach her some outdoor activities her parents never did so that she can spend more time with him. As they spend more and more time together they cross all of the lines, but Kyle's attraction to her has him missing Eve's problem, that she doesn't even realize she has until she accidentally hurts Kyle's son.
The candid writing style, the nostalgia of the small town setting and 80’s era setting, the complex characters, the taboo romance and steamy spice…goodness, I am just fascinated by this series. There is instant attraction between Eve, the preacher’s daughter, and her new neighbor Kyle, a younger single dad new to town (and Eve’s father’s best friend’s brother). There’s insta love and a 10 year age gap but I thought the author addressed it and handled it with the upmost care. How the two fought their feelings, navigated their feelings and then and fought to be together—it all made for a compelling romance mixed with humor, chemistry and intimate moments. This second book captivated me just as much as the first did.
And wow, the dual narration by Willa Jaymes and Gregory Salinas knocked it out of the park! They both made me feel all the emotions of the characters with their voices, and there were a lot of emotions to be felt! I flew through this audio, and could listen to it over and over.
Thanks to the author and Valentine PR for the ALC.

I was a child of the 80s and I felt like I was rereading my childhood. Kyle and Eve are two fated souls that were just 10 years different in age. This story will make you laugh, make you cry, and every emotion in between. You can feel the connection between the characters and as with every one of Jewel's books you'll wonder why you didn't read it sooner and wish it would never end. It's simply perfect.
“You can walk the line, or you can build a fence along it so they have to stay on their side. And that’s part of growing up. But it also means they can no longer be there to save you. If you want to fly, you have to be willing to fall and even crash. But if you can do that and show them that your strength is greater than your mistakes and imperfections, they will see that they raised you right.”
The Apple Tree is an angsty age-gap, forbidden, single-dad romance & my God was it beautiful.
The depth and sincerity behind Eve & Kyle’s romance was done stunningly. These two are complex characters and Jewel E. Ann does a wonderful job ensuring her readers are feeling all of the emotions her characters are feeling.
As gorgeous as this love story is, I genuinely appreciate the struggles that Eve and Kyle faced - both individually and together. This dove so much deeper than just age gap and maturity differences. I was pulling for these two throughout the whole book… even when my heart physically ached.
If you’re feeling iffy after book one, I urge you take a chance on book two. This was a beautiful read with a hard earned HEA.
